Sharon and I exchanged our thoughts about CAIPS file and the way some people were profiting out of it... CIC read our posts... Today they have updated their site and have clarify how people can have access to their files. This is good because now the system is more transparent and people will now begin to ask for such files without having to pay no more than $CAD 5.

The link is

I hope this is useful.

Sharon, this is one of the best things CIC has done this year. It makes clear what the rules are and how to apply. Unless the want to waste their money, they don´t have to use those people who charge them 30-35 bucks.

I don´t know how I can congratulate CIC in this action. Well done CIC!!!

Sorry, I am a bit of slow today. Can we, as Skilled PR applicants - especially the ones that are presently not in Canada, request CAIPS notes on our own behalf? It appears to me that we still have to find a Canadian citizen, or PR or someone who´s presently in there to make the request. Would this do any good to someone, like me, that doesn´t know anyone in Canada? Thanks for your comments to help out this slow guy!

I am not sure if there is anything new about this rule. This is just a clarification and a new service added with a fee. You always have a right to find out about your information.

Please note, people go to consultants for their own convenience. I remember when I got my first passport I went to someone to fill my application and he charged me a nominal price (service charge). Now, if I see someone pay for that I would laugh but hey...that´s how things work. They have make living too. Not everyone has time and resources to keep up with the technology. Only 10% population of the world is connected (online) rest still rely on others.

Cheers

Not good enough (in reply to: CIC , CAIPS and FOSS)
This means nothing for individual applicants "not" in Canada. Read the opening statement carefully:

"... The Access to Information Act gives every Canadian citizen, permanent resident and individual or corporation present in Canada the right to access records?in any format?that are held under the control of a government institution subject to certain specific and limited exceptions."

Hence; only valid if you have someone in Canada requesting this information. That is the fact these agencies use to make the extra 20-30$.

It will be good if applicants outside Canada had similar access.
