Subject: Is my sister considered a dependent of mine ?
Hello All,

I am planning to apply for immigration to Canada soon but i have a problem.
I am leaving here with my parents and my young 15 years old sister.
Can all of them accompany me to Canada ?
Or is it limited to my parents only ?

Please help

Alex

Hi Alex,

If you are applying to sponsor your parents, then your sister is a dependent because she is a dependent of your parents (until she turns 22). If you are applying as a federal skilled type, then your dependents are only your children or your spouse. If you are not married, then you don´t have dependents.

Hope this helps.

Hi Alex,

Once you come here and become PR you can apply for your parents and at that time you can apply for your sister. Becoming PR is just 2 years of time. So Keep your fingers crossed and come here and then sponsor your family. Sponsoring a family can take 34-36 months in Canada and then the file will be transferred to regional office where your parents reside. and that time is also available on the website mentioned below. Dont loose hope if you are really interested there is a way if there is a will.

Best Luck,
