Subject: live in canada/work america?
I am currently filling out the paperwork to bring my husband to Canada. I live and work in America and will be permanently moving back to Canada June 1 (I am leasing a house beginning then). Being that this house is just across the border from America (Detroit/Windsor) is it possible for me to continue working in America and just commute every day from Canada? I don´t want this to look bad on his application. I will also be going to school p/t so I have proof of that as well.

Yes you can, no problem. Assuming you´re a Canadian PR, as long as you claim your residence in Canada and return every day to your residence to there, each day is counted as residence in Canada.

I am a Canadian citizen but also have a US green card. Why does my residence each day matter?

because Canada requires you to reside 2 years out of 5 in Canada. If you don´t you lose your permanent residency status.

Yes, but that´s before you become a citizen correct? I am a Canadian citizen and I have been living outside of Canada for 5+ years now...
My husband is the one who will be getting permanent residency, and he will be working and living in Canada.

So if you´re a Canadian Citizen (not a PR), and this is about you (not your husband), why are you asking this question? Canadian citizens can cross the border as often as they like. Commuting to the U.S. everyday from Canada has no affect on your husband´s application, as you´d be considered a Canadian resident based on your residence description.

As far as maintaining your U.S. Green Card status and right to work there while living in Canada, that´s a different matter (and for a different forum).
