Subject: Troubled Girl
  Hi,
I need to sponsor my parents (both father and mother). I need to do all this on my own, since my husband is unwilling to co-sponsor and isnt supporting me emotionally or with the paperwork.

The sponsorship form asks for a birth certificate. However my birth certificate only has the name of my father. In my country they dont put the mothers name on the certificate.
Will this create a problem.

Also the name is very slightly incorrect on the certificate since the name is written on the certificate in my native language, not english. Will that be an issue too.

I really need my parents here and i need to do this alone. Without my husbands support, I am finding it difficult to use the service of an immigration agent. They charge 2000 dollars here.

Many thanks
Sanya

$2,000.00 for a parental sponsorship that will take five years. You got to be kidding.

do not consider using that company. Do you qualify on your own?

You may need your parents here but as Roy suggests, the wait is about 5 years. I am sorry your husband is not being supportive. I have a few thoughts on that subject that I will keep to myself.

Sanya. I am in a similar situation as you. I live in Canada alone and my parents are getting older. I applied for their sponsorship in the end of 2009 by myself. Since the application fees itself is so high I had no desire to pay a lawyer. The first thing you need to know is that despite them being rude sometimes the call center workers at 1-888-242-2100 are there to answer just the questions you have but you have to be careful. I have often called 2-3 times with the same question to verify their answers with each other and in most cases they are very knowledgeable.

Now for your specific question. The first part of the application concerns only you. You will sponsor your father and your mother will be considered his dependent. Since your birth certificate is not in English you will need to get a certified true copy of it made. Google for a translation office near you which is able to certify documents. When you speak to them instruct them to use the correct English spelling of your and your father´s names on your certified copy. This should cost you about $20-30. At this point only your father (not your mother) has to sign the sponsorship agreement. Once in 3-4 years that application gets processed your father will have to show that your mother is his wife through a marriage certificate.

So at this point don´t worry about showing your mother´s name on the birth certificate. Lastly you should know that this process can take very very long but don´t loose hope. Good luck.
