Subject: Adding spouse as secondary card holder credit card
My spouse and I do not really have anything joint so since I applied for a credit card, I figured it would be a good idea to add him as the secondary card holder. Before I do this I just wanted to know if this would be a good idea considering our application will be sent in June. I just don´t want it to look rushed, as if we were just looking for things so that we could say we have something joint. About 2 months remain before the app. will be sent will this look bad?
Thanks!
Ana

technically, it is not joint. You are only allowing him to charge against your credit. I can put anyone as a second card holder on my credit card if I trust them. There is not equal liability. (surprising, I know)

Bad idea on the credit card, consider a joint bank account or insurance policy.

I cannot get a joint bank account considering he is not allowed to come here and I do not have insurance.

still a bad idea on the credit card.

Make sure you have lots of photos, travel tickets, instant messaging records, emails, family letters, wedding details etc.

May I ask why you think this is such a bad idea

1) it does not prove anything in terms of your application
2) you are legally responsible for all charges he makes on that credit card. Until you have been married and lived together for a long time - I would not give anyone access to my credit until I had proof they could be responsible with it and they were financially contributing to the household expenses.

joint credit card is both are responsible for the credit adding him to your card does nothing other than say you are responsble for everything he charges, and that could go bad

Steve, tell you a secret - credit history and liability go with the principal applicant and there can be only one.

A few divorced wives have learned that the hard way after paying what they thought was a joint credit card for years and then upon divorce discovering they had zero credit because the card was in hubby´s name. Same is true for a telephone bill and an electric bill. 1 credit history - 1 person.
