Subject: CANADA's the best place....
No matter what everyone says - Canada is THE PLACE...the best!!! I have stayed in US and I am from SE Asia. But Canada is the place to live. Sure it is not all rosy but which place does not have its share of pros and cons??? We arrived here 3 years ago...a family of immigrants and have - on and off got jobs ( 2 of us in our field and two not in the field ) but we came with a positive attitude. One of us even lost a job after 6 months but hey guess what.... EI helped us tide over ( now which country does that???) and one got sick and OHIP took care! And never ever encountered racism....in fact the diversity here is amazing!!!!! WE had our share of problems but if we had the very same problems in US or our home country it would have been different. Here by God´s will and the Canada people, its government all turned out well. Have a positive attitude "Can Do" and see then what "CANada" does for you.AND this forum specially Roy and Sharon are always there to help you besides the innumerable outreach programs available for new immigrants....Thank you ...Canada!!

Thank you for your comments. I am preparing for the journey while keeping a positive attitude, but there are always shallow discouraging posts that make you wonder.
By the way, where in Canada are you living?

Oh yeah I was like you Victor, a thinking-positive immigrant. Wait until your arrival.... good luck, you´ll need it a LOT.

PS. If you carefully check SAR´s IP address, perhaps it´s either Sharon´s or Roy´s. Oh yeah they do those nasty thing.

Honestly - this is too much - such venom...why??? No ...this is not Sharon...how does she gain? Before my landing here - people like these made me worry - so I thought since I now know and have experienced it first hand - let me honestly encourage people on this forum - the new hopefuls - Victor- not to worry. One thing we as a family had decided was not wait for jobs just take whatever is offered first and get into the Canadian stream then later select...that way one is not frustrated .....BTW I am in Toronto.

SAR, may be you don´t know must of the west European countries have more stronger social and unemployment support (like Germany, and Scandinavians). In some cases the benefit they get from the government is more than the similar person working full time.

If you are speaking real, then hats off! Yes, you have to move to a place if you feel it like home. Equal opportunities, freedom and no discrimination...these are the key factor for settlement and also the growth of a country.

For Apron, going for a temporary job and immigrating are different things. For temporary job you might look for ahigh pay but for immigration you look the place where you can live for life long. In other terms it is your second home. You have to generate your status yourself than waiting for a lottery system to select you for a job. Yeah, if you are talking about Canadian experience and credential certifications...then you may be right...these are B... Sh.t in some cases to pull legs of competent people.

Hello Victor (in reply to: CANADA's the best place....)
I encourage you to keep that positive mentality and see thongs for what they are. You may be very well suprised with what you will encounter. Canada is a full of positive porpaganda because they make money out of immigrants and they need more to keep their system afloat.
I do not know what your expectations are but if you hold a dcent job in your country I would suggest you to just come for a holiday and find out storires thru immigrants, not thru canadian borns( they tend to deny anything negative of their country).
Good Luck!

I got to make a comment, I just got to comment, and I know in advance my comment will be attacked because I´m a bad person (Canadian Born)!

When one considers a country to reside in it is not about only equal opportunities, freedom and no discrimination but what gets me is you focus on the negative and how much better Scandinavia and Germany are with unemployment support.

All FSW applicants have to have sufficent funds to support themselves for at least six months and EI is employment insurance. Some excel, most do okay and some fail, that is life.

Well Canada has humid summers and cold snowy winters but Scandinavia (I lived there) always drizzels and rarely rains and you can go weeks with never seeing the sun. The clouds are so low you can almost touch them. Oh but the chocolate pastry shops, yummy.

But the GRASS is so, so green because of all that rain. It is also really long because it is usually too wet to cut the grass.

Watch out for the spray painted signs "keep Demark for the Danes"

When one wants to focus on a couple of negative points of any country it is easy. When all things are compared and assessed the result is always different.

All across Canada there are still German, Danish, Norweigan and Sweedish communities and festivals. I guss things have changed drastically in those countries.

Roy,

Believe me I am a (normally) cool man :)

I didn´t focus the unemployment benefit of western Europe. It was the answer to SAR (he says "now which country does that???"). Just for his information.

You might know that these countries have strong social system. People say that Canada has the system that is hybrid of US and Western Europe.

I don´t need to say in social system people who are in receiving end are always happy but those who pay for it are not so happy or may feel ok. I myself pay more than 300 EUR as insurance contribution per month while many people do not if they do not have job. And some people pay almost 800 plus per month. All treatment and medicines (except some preventive) are free.

This year I am comparing the weather of Canada (say Toronto) and western Europe. I find Canada more sunny and early summer there. Probably only few days in winter are dry and chilling rather than humid winter in Europe. Not only weeks, you cn go months without seeing the sun. You are right the GRASS (probably many meanings) looks green and tall.

I must say that the most immigrants in EU (I am not talking about UK) are labour class immigrant, they are always happy to live here, and never ever want to leave....the reason is something more....(I REALLY MEAN IT)..

I don´t have enough info about Canada, I only heard or read. And I don´t always believe on the things heard or read....its like branidng US as #1 :)

There was one report that more than 16% native people in the world want to emmigrate to other countries. I have seen in EU people from Canada, US or Australia coming to work..while on the other side native people leave Europes too.

I can also say: All countries in the world are good, you need to find what is good to you. But for me lets see Canada may be good! One thing I believe on myself :) I would never leave Western Europe, if English were the main language where I live or could I speak the language good enough to an academic standard.

As Roy says life is too short, everyone realizes that fact at the certain time of life. Be honest to the country where you live, do good, you will get the good result. I don´t know whether these principles work in Canada or not!

an observation...

people who have status in their home country because of wealth or birth seem to have the hardest time in Canada. Probably because that status means zero here and the sense of entitlement that comes with it is viewed as arrogant. Those who come with little or nothing to lose see the opportunities and usually succeed.

As for Western Europe - you are absolutely correct about their socialist style of society. I personally believe we are a reasonable blend.
