Living more than seven years in mainland EU this is another unbelievable news for me. Probably those officer needs to learn from German police, who even start their first encouter as "Good morning or good afternoon Sir" even with a shoplifter, and never use informal word or language.
If you do wrong you will get the penalty letter next day in your letter box, but never feel harrassed or humiliated in any encouter or incident. Isn´t there any "government" to control these guy. Following British civilization will not work for modern civilization. May be Canada also start Federal Governtment Worker Immigration programme LOL :))))

What a shame. I wouldn´t generalize the entire agency for the misbehaviour of some officers.

The article focused on actual complaints that CBSA officers had filed against them! It was not one single Port of Entry POE or Office it was plenty.
Several are really terrific and especially the ones that have been around for decades that I deal with are terrific. I agree but there are ones that are too much.
CBSA booked all the tickets on a whole plane to remove a bunch of Portuguese failed refugee claimants who had been working in Construction for several years. One still authorized consultant made refugee claims for these construction workers based on no work in Portugal a EU country so they could get a SIN card and join the Union.
CBSA had the plane flying to Lisbon and my clients wanted to pay for their own tickets to Oporto Portugal. We were given 10 days to get a flight ticket within. We tried unsucessfully to get a flight to Lisbon because CBSA blocked all the tickets. so I bookeed them for April 1st instead of before March 31st as ordered. I left messages for the Officer and called her supervisor and left messages.
On a Sunday morning that particular Officer called me and started screaming that SHE had ordered that they must leave by March 31st "because she said so".
I recorded her call and that is one of the main reasons my clients got an ARC to return on a temporary basis after seeking permanent residency based on a spurious refugee claim.
I can give really great examples of terrific officers but I think you need to realize I was not painting the department with one wide brush.
I have to work in conjunction with CBSA and sometimes I overstep the line and it is overlooked so in most situations I try to cool emotions.
The problem is there are so many brand new staff that I work with and they need to learn a little more comp[assion when remopving families.

The brand new staff is not the problem, it is the "Temporary Staff". That is under revision though.

There is no question as Minister Van Loan stated to Senator Banks about the CBSA.
Mr. Van Loan: Thank you very much. I think you demonstrate a healthy mistrust of unlimited legislative power to unaccountable bureaucrats without process.
Senator Banks: I could not have said it better. I will refer to Hansard to use that sentence again in the future

These guys are a joke. I flew out to Vancouver on 8th June, had a hotel booked and a return flight too. When I got through at customs they sent me through the search area so I assumed this was just a random check like most customs do at airports. I was shocked when this idiot dealing with me starts asking questions and implys I´m looking for work. Well what a stupid assumption considering if I wanted to work I could easily have applied for a work visa and been accepted. He then refuses me entry which obviously I was furious about considering I had full documentation for my holiday and I had spent around £800. I was then held by customs and transferred to the local jail where I spent 17 hours in a room crying and wondering why I had ever wanted to visit Canada! I was spoke to like a piece of dirt by the staff there. One girl told me to shut up when I asked for the time and slammed the metal shutter on the door in my face! When the two immigration officers finally showed up to take me to the airport I was just so happy to be returning to Manchester, England. All I have of my trip to Vancouver is bruises up and down my arms and legs where they grabbed me and put handcuffs on me so tight they nearly broke my wrists! I didn´t see any of the city or the wildlife I planned to see! It has put me off travelling for life and I will never return to Canada again after this.

As a US citizen I had been convicted of Income Tax Evasion 20 years ago. The CBSA agent had incorrectley determined that I was guilty of "fraud" and that I was inadmissible to Canada. He was wrong and many letters including correspondence with Vic Toews, they all still refuse to admit that CBSA made a mistake and that an American knows more about Canadian law than they do. They are corrupt and arrogant in their own way of never admitting a mistake. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
