I´ve got the Permanent Residence Card after I landed to Canada in November, 2002. Because I am holding a student visa in the US, I have to go back to the school right away after the landing. I know that under the current immigration policy, a new immigrant who got permanent resident status have to live in Canada 2 years for every five years period. I now have to go to Canada to live in order to keep my permanent resident status. Since I have never live in Canada since the landing, can I go to canada now? I was landed in Canada on Nov 15, 2002, I was told by the lawyer that I can live outside of Canada for 3 years, live inside Canada for 2 years in any 5 years period to keep my Permanent Resident Status. Now, it is the time that I have to go to live in Canada, Can I get into Canada now? I am afraid that I have never lived in Canada after the landing, I will not allowed to go to canada now. Can someone help me out? Please? Thank you very much!

You have been going to school in the US all this time and still have such trouble communicating? Well, you are waltzing my friend. Why did you become a PR in Canada and why on earth you want to go there now? I know one Chinese guy had trouble doing such a thing a year ago. I am not sure if the laws have changed by now. Good luck in any case. In your case, it just might be worth calling the Canadian Embassy or talk to an attorney or just give it a try... drive upto Canadian border and try it out. It is appalling to see people use Canada as some kind of a surrogate!

Since you landed in November 2002, you must retrun to live in Canada before November 2005 in order to keep your PR status. So if you wish to to move to Canada now, yes you will be able to do so.

However you will still have to live off your savings until you can find a job, house, apply for health insurance and SIN card, etc. And if you are moving to Toronto, you can apply for OHIP but you will have to wait 3 months before you can be covered by the health care system.
