Subject: Being sponsored by my wife
My wife and i recently sent in our application and the offices received it on the third of march. (i know as i tracked the parcel).
The application was for an in canada class and at the moment i am on an extended visitors visa which immigration extended so i can stay with my wife which is awesome...

I am just a little confused as to what 1st stage approval is? As i am currently not allowed to work i applied for a work permit too.
A lady called me saying she received the work permit but cannot process it until i reach first stage approval.

Is first stage approval when my wife is approved as a sponsor? (which according to the website takes 65 or so days) or is it once they start my application after that?
also does it take 6 months from the date of my wifes approval as a sponsor or from the date we submitted all of our paperwork which was received by them on the third of march...

1st stage approval is when they say yes that the sponsor qualifies.

If you are both in Canada the application would have gone to Vegreville. 1st phase wait time is 6-7 months.

then you add on the applicants wait - see wait times here.

what my advice? withdraw the application and apply outland while you are still here for a visit.

withdrawing application (in reply to: Being sponsored by my wife)
so the work permit is issued after my wife is approved as a sponsor? In 6-7 months after applying? which will allow me to work until my PR application is processed?

So if all goes well, because our application was received on the 3rd of march i should be issued an open work permit round about october? thats if my wife is approved and all our paperwork is in order?...

We are not too worried about waiting until then as long as we are together, its just i have received mixed info from the call centre which confused me even more...

I think if you took a poll of members on this site they would suggest that you reconsider your inland application in favour of an outland. You can file an outland while you eat your morning cereal at the same kitchen table but you apply as if you are still living in your home country. The entire process is cut in half time wise and you also have an opportunity to appeal if something goes sideways. you already have an extension on your visa... so in theory you could be 90% done on the entire process if you reconsider.

1st stage approval

Is when Vegreville Case Processing Centre approves your marriage. You don´t really get it!

If your in the GTA Pickering - Milton New market to Lake Ontariok add another year to two years for actual landing before you can travel.

I don´t think Dev is worried about travelling, I think he is worried about having to leave his wife and now long he will have to wait to work.

In my mind, they have picked the slowest route to go with the most risk with very little benefit.

Wife sponsoring me (in reply to: Being sponsored by my wife)
Ok i understand now, so we have to wait until my wife has been approved as a sponsor plus the time it takes for them to look at my application so it could take and probly will take more than a year? Oh my god that is horrible. the reason my wife and i are applying inland is because i came over here so we can get married where her family was as she is canadian, we moved here from the UK where we were both on a 2 year working holiday visa. I was going to leave canada after my first visitors visa but after calling the call centre we were advised to extend my visitors visa and then apply for PR with a work Permit, the lady assured us that It would probly take like three months inland before i could work which did not sound so bad, then i phoned a couple of weeks ago and i was told they would only look at my work permit after first stage approval and she gave me an estimate of six months....

And what you are suggesting is for us to withdraw our application and submit an out of canada application? But i can still stay in canada as i have a visitors visa? they say on the website that it takes 65 days for a person to be approved as a sponsor should we let that go through and just withdraw the PR application? As we sent the application in 63 days ago...

thanks for all your replies, this immigration thing has turned out to be more of a problem than anything else, atleast my wife and i are together though..

1st stage approval for an inland application is a different CIC office than 1st stage approval Outland. 65 days vs. 6 months.

You can still hang out in Canada while you apply outland. Make sure you have a ´residence´ back in the UK. You can stay as long as your visa is valid.

application question (in reply to: Being sponsored by my wife)
hello, i have a question if someone can help me... i am doing the PR sponsorship with mu husband who lives in morocco. my question is regarding the amount of emails and conversations i need to attach with it. We have talked online every single day for over 2 years, most days we talked for at least 8 hours and more, so one day worth of conversation is pages and pages to print. how much exactly does immigration want? do i have to print every word of our talk for the days? or just part? im not sure exactly what to include and how much of it, exactly. can someone pliz help me? your feedback is greatly appreciated
good luck, and god bless

think like a lawyer. Choose some correspondence that adds facts to your story. Discussion about marriage, living together, travel plans. Perhaps print a log of the correspndence dates and then, as I just said, present your highlights as evidence.

Once you get past 10-20 pages I think might get annoyed. hopefully you have other evidence than conversation transcripts.

Hello everyone,

I have a question. I am from India and I have been offered a postdoc position for one year in a university in Canada. I am going to apply for the work permit. Along with my application, I am also planning to apply for an open work permit for my husband, who is a software professional. Our main purpose is to just stay together.
Is anybody aware of the procedure and time required for all this?
