Subject: What not to do when entering Canada

Officer:
What is the porpuse of your visit?

Traveler:
I am here to visit my girlfriend.

Officer:
Is your girlfriend a Canadian citizen?

Traveler:
I am not sure, I think so.

Officer:
How long are you planning to stay in Canada?

Traveler:
I am not sure, we are moving in and see how it goes from there.

Officer:
Points to a the secondary inspection area (Immigration Canada)
Sr, please go to that office over there an officer will be with you shortly.

The rest is history.

If you are visiting, make sure that you can prove what your reason for visiting is and for Gosh sakes, bring a at least a business card with your name on it, so you can prove that you have a real job. Keep your itinerary handy, dress up at least for the trip, keep some petty cash with you, credit cards.

The reason why I am posting this is that there are people out there that may have good intentions to visit the country for a days to see old friends and family and they come here SO unprepared due to a lack of common sense that the airport is as far as they are going to go.

What is the defintion of time when the primary Officer says "someone will be with you shortly"? What does shortly mean?

At Edmonton Intl, sometimes there is only one officer in secondary. If the officer is busy with other cases such as customs, other travelers etc, the person who has been sent to secondary has to wait until there is an officer available to handle his/her case.

It may take anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 hours.

"someone will be with you shortly"?

is a relative term so dont get upset when it is getting longer.

LOL if you said this to an officer you can be sure when you go to that secondary inspection it is so they can record you are an idiot and send you packing the same way you came in,
Is your friend a canadain citizen(i dont know)WHAT
How long are you staying im not sure just shacking up to see how it goes/WHAT
Come on if someone really said this and an officer did let them in needs to be um retrained.
