Subject: What does CIC do from AOR to IA?
  Hi All,

I have just been wondering what CIC does in the course of PR processing between the period when AOR is issued until IA is finally issued. What exactly does CIC looks for before coming out with the IA since this can take a period of between 6 months to over a year depending on the v isa post.

They probably go through the applications as they arrive in a systematic manner. First assign AOR. At some point in time later, assign File no. And so on. It is good there is some gap between assigning file number and initial assessment. You can then send any pending documents to them and complete your file. If there was no gap between assigning file no and the actual assessment, you would have had to collect all documents before filing.... which would slow down initial filing. In between, they might be working on the other files that are at various levels of progress. Essentially, they cash the money and leave your crap laying around until they need to clean the space for the new arrivals...:) I think.

Thanks American refuse. Well in my case, I submitted all requisite documents in Nov 2004 and received AOR in December 2004. In my AOR they indicated that I will be receiving my IA IN 6-8 months so I have just been wondering what exactly they wil be doing within the time gap.

It may well be that an immigration officer does not even look at the initial application. It could be a clerk. At that time all they want to see is if the forms are all there and completed accurately. language proof, police, funds. I do not think they even read it. If all is good they cash your cheque, send you a confirmation with your file number and put your application into the que for a formal assessment. it could take several months for your turn.

If all is in order the first time, an officer can make a quick decision to waive your interview etc.- that is why it is so important to try and have all your documents in that original package.

This may help answer some of your questions about what does CIC do with the application.

CIC sends your file to your resident country where they will do the security check. Depends on the country it will wait in the queue. They also have a quota for each country in each class.
