Subject: Questions about divorce and marriage
  Hi Everyone,

I and my ex-wife became PR in 2006 and we started living in Canada in 2007. However, we separated in 2008 and got the divorce certificate from the court early this year (2010). And, I have known my current girlfriend for a year now and we would like to marry in Thailand the end of this year, as she is living over there. I have the following questions:

1) I have got the divorce certificate this year. Do I have to inform the immigration office? Or, I should inform them in the future after I have married my current gf? It is because I want to help her apply for the PR

2) I am not eligibile to apply for the citizenship until early next year. Do you think it´s better for me to send her application after I apply for the citizenship? My friend said no because currently it is taking more than a year for the citizenship process. Any idea?

Thank you very much
Sims

once you have landed and completed the PR process you are under no reporting obligations to CIC. The only time you discuss your change in status is when you apply to sponsor your new wife.

Citizen ship has no bearing on sponsorship beyond the fact that you cannot be out of the country and sponsor your wife (gf) as a PR.

Sharon is right, Citizenship status here is relevant only if you are out of the country and trying to sponsor your girlfriend however there is an exception to that - If you are employed by a Canadian company and you are sent overseas then the rule become an exception, you will be allowed to sponsor your gf.

that gf must either be 1 year common law with proof, or your wife.

Just beware your second application for sponsor in as litle as 3.5 years is going to be very well looked at.They may think your new wife is a marriage of convience.
