Hi,
I met my boyfriend while visiting a friend who work on a boat cruise for several weeks. After I came back to Ottawa, we became closer and colser and started looking at options to move together (October 09). I visited him for 5 weeks in Ukraine in December/January, met his family and got much closer to him.
Now, he is doing a last contract with the cruise ship company that will end in August. I know that a temporary Visa would be the best (and fastest) option, but might prove to be hard... Can I be a "sponsor" for his Visa? I know we can´t state our relationship...
Also, he keeps a room with his mother in Ukraine while he is working on the cruise ship and, as Ukraine´s economy is not stable, does´t have a bank acount anymore. Would this harm his application?
Would the fact that he has been working and travelling, and that he came to Canada various times working on the cruise ships be good for him? As he could have stayed here at that time??
And, could he use his past travelling to justify coming here to travel?
I would much prefer having him come here and possibly work for a bit before considering marriage because it will seem like the only reason we´re getting married is the citizenship - and I have a romantic notion about it all. But is it my best option?
All I want is to be with him as quickly as possible. I miss him so much, even though we communicate almost every day since Septemer 2009. I just want us to be close again!
I thank you in advance for your help. It is so hard to understand all the rules and which options to consider...

Passion can cloud ones eyes but when it is around you, life is good.
He on his ship have visited different ports of call - he has not actually visited those cities. A Ukrainian getting a visitor visa to Canada is not the easist and what areason would he give to come and visit his partner? Funds available and his chances of returning would be?
You want to play house and be together but you seem not sure if you wish to marry this individual and settle down for ever.
He can only apply in Kyiv and he will not be there until August something so see if he talks about marriage.

based on my own experience, i´d say the chance to get a visitor visa is very low and canada does not provide any real alternatives than marriage in this case. but be careful - especially with people working in tourist resorts and similar insitituions, many of them have other intrests...
you might also consider as an alternative to leave canada and move to the ukrania for one year and then you might be eligble to be a sponsorship. needless to say that this is no garantee that your application will be successful.
