Subject: Timeline for PR
  Hello,

From what I have gleaned thru this site and CIC´s, after a PR application is approved, the person must ´land´ in Canada, then apply for a PR card.

A brief backgrounder:
My husband, who I´m sponsoring, has been living here since 2006 on continuous work permits. His most recent one expires this December (2010) and we´re hoping his application will be approved before he has to leave the country.
The application was made outside Canada. So...

Can anyone give us an idea, along with possible timeline, of what will happen after he receives news of a (hopefully positive) decision? I mined the CIC website but couldn´t find a description/ overview of the whole process.

For example: (remember this is off the top of my head and not correct ;)
- Will receive notification to land - about 1 month after approval
- Will have to meet with an officer to confirm his landing - same day as landing
- Has to apply for a PR card- immediately after landing
- Receives his PR card, ...

Also:
Will he need to leave and re-enter Canada for any reason, as part of this process (other than his permit expiring, or being called in for an interview, which he already was)?

I appreciate your feedback! Thanks!

since the application was done outside canada, the decision will arrive at the address he gave outside canada.
Did he did his medical exams yet? Well, my husband had to send his passport whith the medical exam. Then, Immigration send him a temp. visa of 1 entry. WHen he came they made him fill oout some documents here. After a month he received his residence in the mail here in canada.

Good to know, thanks. Yes, medical rpt was sent in Nov 2008 along with all the required docs. We are still waiting and checking the status of the applicatn online every week, which has had no changes since ´medical exams have been received´... except that they have been asking for additional documentation ever since, on and off. Until a few weeks ago, when they asked for yet another document, after half a year of silence, just when we thought a decision would actually be made... . oh well. We are wondering if the fact that he was in the military for many years may be holding up the case for some reason (though he was only involved in ´practice missions,´ then was a surgical nurse for most of his military career- not very risky business).

We´re just hoping that the fact that he hasn´t been refused yet means the decision will be positive, and that it will come through soon (!) though by this time I should learn that my own logic doesn´t necessarily apply to that of an immigration officer´s ;)

Forgive my ramblings. What bothers me the most is that we can´t make an even tentative plan ´B´ nor C,D,E for whatever may or may not happen in a few months. Hence the original question- but I see that the process is so radically different from one case to the next.

Congrats on it working out for you- hope the same for our family. And happy Canada Day to all!

Hi Amit,

For better chances at a response you should probably re-post under another thread, or a new subject altogether (IELTS score and PR points?)

There´s an online PR points calculator that can give you an idea of the points you will receive- follow the link at the bottom of the following page:
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do?&lang=en

Good luck!
