Hello!
Is it possible that the parent will stay in Canada while his sponsorship application is in process?
If she´s still required to leave Canada, is it possible to enter to USA and come back to Canada the same day?

Yes with certain conditions.
If they have authorization to enter USA no problem but when they re-enter Canada in the same car the CBSA Officer will know how long they have been out. The issue when they attempt to re-enter is purpose for visiting Canada.
