Subject: Moving to Montreal from Scotland
  Here is the current situation.

When i was in Toronto in ´99 i made a few friends and have always stayed in touch.

They live in Montreal and are always telling me to move out there and as i have finally decided i wont return to Oz (Australia), i am looking at other options.

The visa situation for one is surely f***ing nails, having done it in Oz im not sure if i can be f***ed to go through it all again or to even begin such a headwreck.

I dont ever go on holiday abroad as my way of thinking is, if i have decided to go on holiday to suchnsuch then i wanna live there for a decent bit, see it from looking out rather than looking in if that makes sense.

Have done this previously and it worked out well, to an extent.

I could always just f***koff to Glasgow or Edinburgh and live happily ever after am sure, i have friends and family in both cities and am there a fair bit each year.

No wife, no kids, no debts and a wee bit of cash saved BUT i just hit 31 and have no idea what the to do

1-Just hit 31 and not know what to do.
Do you really expect people here to tell you what to do?
Grow up.

2-Do you have to use the F*** word on every sentence you say?
It doesn´t make sound very smart.

3- If you want to immigrate to Canada, here is where you start:

Wow, if that´s Canadian "friendliness" as exhhibited by DocD, I don´t think I´d want to move to Canada.

To Spence; the above imposter does not represent this board´s acceptance and hearing out of all requests for advice and assistance. Many of us are at times at a loss in life, and some here may be able to provide insight and direction based on their experiences.

Since you apparently have a few choices, such as UK (current), "OZ", or Canada, my advice is to go with your heart, choose one, and concentrate on that as your one and only objective. You´ll likely have better results by making this decision upfront now and sticking with it with all your energy and commitment. The application process is no fun, but if you really want it bad enough, you can do it as many already have. This board has probably already helped countless thousands through the process.

DO not even Move to Montreal (in reply to: Moving to Montreal from Scotland)
Canada is an overrated country that appals immigrants thru publicity. Canadians are not that friendly in the bigger cities. Montreal is for the french canadian and thoguh is the most interesting city in Canada, there are no jobs and the few opportunites available are kept for the french caandian people. In Montreal you really will feel like arela immigrant. If I were you I would chose Australia over Caanda, way better weather and friendlier people. Canada is very depressing during its winter whichlasts 6 to 8 months in reality.

Sorry Richard if I hurt your feelings, I am not the greast when it comes down to sugar coat things.
I can sing "Imagine" by John Lennon if you want me to.

But I stand by my post.

1- There is no reason to use the "F" word in every sentence.

2- I have a hard time advising a 31 yr old person what to do with their life.

DocD, well ok, I´ll agree with you about the needless use of the "F" word. But in some cultures and settings, it´s not that vulgar and more part of the vernacular in expressing frustration. Heck, our Blackhawks and opponent Flyers mouthed that to each frequently throughout the series. So that´s the context I sensed in the way Spence used it. I´m myself am no saintly priest sprinkling holy water, and personally I´m not as offended by this as I am about idiotic anti-immigrant comments I see occasionally from right-wing nuts ere.

Now that you bring it up, as a matter of fact I like John Lennon´s "Imagine". Especially the lyrics about imagining there´s no religion.

So no offense intended your way otherwise.
