I am an American citizen and a chemist by profession. I want to migrate to Canada. In the Self Assesment test, i got a score of 70. However looking over at this site http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp
I get very confused. It says ( I copied and pasted the relevant item below)

"1. According to the eligibility criteria, your application is eligible for processing if:

•you have an offer of arranged employment, OR
•you are a foreign national who has been living legally in Canada for one year as a temporary foreign worker or an international student, OR
•you are a skilled worker who has at least one year of experience* in one or more of the occupations listed here."

When I clicked "listed here", the list does not include my occupation. Hence, when I took the test on the ELIGIBILITY TOOL,the result says I need to have an employer to qualify. My question is : should I still file an application considering I got 70 score in the self assessment but failed in the Elegibility Tool Test ?

Chemist NOC Code 2112 is a huge list. Search for other similar occupations by clicking on the all occupations listed here tab or look at the bottom. 2115 or 2121

Geochemist is on the occupational list.

What is a Chemist in your country could be classified eleswhere. see http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2006/Occupations.aspx?val=2

Thank you Roy (in reply to: Sharon please help)
Thank you Roy for your immediate response.

I indeed falls on NOC code 2112. I meet the requirements on work experience. My problem is the fact that my occupation (NOC 2112) is not listed in the list I pasted in it´s entirety below (from website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list). Even if NOC2112 is not in this list,is my application still eligible for processing?
