WELL THE COUNTRIES WITH MONEY ANYWAYS!

The G8 and G20 summits are being held this weekend in Ontario (Huntsville & Toronto). http://www.nationalpost.com/news/g20/3203436/story.html

Most G8 countries have introduced or passed new banking regulations to decrease the chances of governments bailing out (THEIR) banks in the future but NOT CANADA. Our banks we are told are the most secure of the G8. I guess that would be a reason NOT to move to CANADA and to pick Iceland instead!

This of course is not a posting from 2005 with no attached article about doom and gloom but 2010 and are you there listening Brian? LOL

A large section of Toronto has been fenced off which has caused some frustration but imagine each delegation from twenty countries brings their wives and lots of other economic Ministers. Saudi Arabia King has booked one entire Hotel in Yorkville for all his wives and other Ministers so they can go shopping and dining at the areas exclusive restaurants.

Will this G8 and G20 summits accomplish anything (probably not) but at least it might develop some stronger friendships between leaders which may settle disputes that arise more friendly.

Canada has always been in the G8 and is being looked to as an example as how to pay down the US, UK, EU and others countries deficits.

Been there done that.

ONE CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT CANADA IS A SAFE ECONOMICALLY SOUND PLACE TO IMMIGRATE TO.

I was pleased to see that Canada has lead the way and put up a whack load of cash for 3rd world maternal care which has been collectively matches by the other 7 countries and the Bill Gates Foundation.

It also looks like Canada is poised to be invited to the UN security council. Obviously, someone thinks we are doing something right.

For a young country with a population of 36 million- that is something to be proud of.

But it would be not as a permanent member of the UN security council, but rather for the 2011-2012 temporary term. What seems to be a snagging point is Canada´s refusal to recognize access to water as a human right. The U.S. is about to reverse its own similar position on this.

They are rioting in Toronto. How shameful. What did those businesses do to deserve broken windows and shit thrown inside. I wonder how many of these hooligans actually live in Canada and how many came from elsewhere for entertainment.

This is not how you make your point. Do they actually think the leaders are listening to them? Rhetoric with no solutions is a waste of air.

now, ask me how I really feel.

there is some politics around the water issue. We have lots of water and want to retain soveriengnty and not include it in the NAFTA agreement. We are currently shipping water to the US. Under NAFTA...our current agreements for water shipments could be enforced, even if it meant Canada was short of water itself.

If Canada signs on to the UN access to water agreement, we are shooting ourselves in the NAFTA foot.

Nothing as bad as Pittsburg or any city in Europe G8 demonstrations. The rain had to help.

Half as bad as when the Habs won.

Shutting down all transit south of Bloor was a bit too much.

on the last day of the Olympics there was 100,000 people in a 4 square block area - 50% of them drunk by noon. The only way they could prevent more people arriving into the area was to shut down transit. People simply walked in but at a much smaller volume and with great inconvenience.

I have some theories about Saturday. Based on what happened in Vancouver in February, the police let the thugs play havoc for a bit, proved they were thugs and then went after them. I would not be surprised if the torched police cars were stripped decoys.

Even the more peaceful protesters... get the head off the beer and then appeal to common sense. I truly believe that the city would have been much worse off had the police not hesitated in the way that they did.

Discovered last night that the police have been monitoring social media for months and were also using it to communicate with the crowd.

but the French president also said he was going to put on next G8/20 event for 1/10th the security cost. This is the same place that had race riots a year ago.

I appreciate that TV coverage can paint a pretty skewed picture but I doubt that the businesses along those demolished streets would call it ´nothing´.
