Subject: Cdn/US marriage; US hubby wants to work, but when?
Hope someone can help us understand our options:

We are a Canadian wife and US husband, just arrived in Halifax a week ago. We were living in Europe for a few years. We are assuming best option for wife to sponsor US hubby.

Presently, neither of us have work yet. The Cdn wife is job hunting, assuming that US hubby cannot work until sponsored. But US hubby wants to start consulting as soon as possible.

Any ideas?

And when can US husband start a Cdn company and start self-employment?

Thank You for any advice and hope.

Canadian should sponsor US husband as an outland applicant. use your European address for hubby. This method goes faster and allows for appeal if something goes wrong.

Hubby can work once process is finished. sorry - no short cuts unless you can bill to a European bank account and pay taxes outside Canada and even then - you are playing with danger.

If it offers any consolation, it took hubby and I less than 4 months and all we did was follow the cic website and this forum(he´s from TX)

Thanks "ConfusedCanadian" for the consolation. 4 months, huh? I have to assume you (Cdn) had the job and income proof already.

In our case, we don´t. So, looks like we have to first get the job, then gather up (12 months!) of income proof, then - we can start the process. :(

family class (spouse) does not require proof of income. Start pulling your application together - think like a lawyer and prove every question on the application in several ways. Mean time, get that job happening. Soon as you have employment - you are ready to rock and roll.
