In order to return to Canada, you must be in possession of a valid passport or travel document. You also need to hold a valid work permit if you are returning to work in Canada.

If you are a citizen of a country that requires a temporary resident visa to travel to Canada, you will also need to be in possession of a valid visa to return, unless:

• you are returning to Canada following a visit only to the United States or St.-Pierre and Miquelon; and

• you return before the expiry of the period initially authorized for your entry or any extension to it, either as a visitor, student or worker.

thanks DocD.:) i appreciate it.
i researched about this departure card or i94 form.
says, that officer should have that affixed or stapled to opposite side of US visa in my passport.

didnt know that this very small piece of paper is important. and i was not even informed about its future use when i leave US.

i got that departure card from Toronto. officer there should have that affixed or have me informed.

had i lost that card, it would have cost me 320-350 USD.

thanks DocD.

Going forward you have to surrender your I-94 when you leave the US. It says so in the back of the form.

One of the main issues if you don´t surrender your I-94 at the end of your visit in the US is that in the future they may not let you back in.

Here is a tip though. CBSA officers when there is a returning worker, PR or a Canadian citizen sometimes they don´t stamp your passport. In your case if the CBSA officer doesn´t stamp your passport, ask her/him to stamp it.

If you have any problems re-entering the US because they cannot confirm your timely departure the Canadian Customs Stamp is a valid way to show the day you entered Canada.

thats a wonder to me.

why is there an "if" from officer not stamping passport.

that is their job. most flyers are not frequent flyers.

also, this mini i94 is so small. and the note at the back is written fine line, while IT IS so Important.they should change that or improve that i94 thing.

for me, officer from toronto should have that affixed to passport and have everyone informed its IMPORTANCE.

thanks again DocD
