Subject: house price in Canada in comparision with in US
The home price has increased dramstically in the last 2 or 3 year in most major cities in the US due to low interest rate. I have missed the best time to buy home in the US.
I am wondering was there a similar pattern in Canada? I am thinking of to purchase a home immediatly after settle down in Canada. I would like to get some info about price history in Canada and price comparision with US.
Thanks.

prices have increased. the big cities are the hardest hit. The country is too big and diverse to give you a blanket increase or a blanket price range. In Vancouver suburb, my condo went up about 25% this past year and 18% the year before.

Are you going to Calgary? If so you are in luck. A nice 2 bedroom condo is only about 130-150 grand. I advise you buy a condo in downtown high-rise. You will enjoy the sights...

dear AR... looks like you have set your sights on Calgary as your new home? good choice. not as big as Toronto or Vancouver and the economy is strong. The culture is a little more conservative but there are lots of jobs to be found.

I am a chem technologist by training so Alberta looks like a very nice place. Universities, petrochemicals and mineral undustries in that area are quite attractive. I already talked to ppl about houses but not going to buy before i reach there and scout the area better...

Well I may not even look for work after I reach there... but you never know how sure you are about retirement. Can it be boring? Sometimes, it is just good to have work. I still need to think about all things... But if I have to decide right away, I will lean toward Calgary... I like the rodeo culture and horsing around so that fits my hobbies well. With so many schools around, maybe I can get into teaching which is often as stressful as industry jobs could be. We will see..... how things trun out.
