Not sure what it´s not as widely covered in the mainstream papers - it now takes about 6 months (about 172 days) for P. R. Card renewal so plan accordingly.

Ok, so any truth to the "staff layoff"? I wanna travel in a month and I´m stuck! I know I can get a ticket and send em the ticket to speed up the process but that means I can´t get a good deal on flights as I don´t wanna risk losing money if they don´t process my application on time, meaning an expensive ticket. and does anyone know how much quicker it is if I send them a ticket?

Here is the truth.
July/August everything takes longer... every year is the same story. Why? Flood of visitor visa applications, student visa applications and CIC have lives and actually are entitled to holidays. So, everything takes a little longer in the summer.
On time? Where does CIC guarantee how long things take? They will give you a historical average but they promise very little. If you want to be sure about not wasting money, don´t buy your ticket until your card is in your hot little hand.

They should state on the page that even to renew can take on average 7 months. Has anyone re-applied with a proof of travel and received the card on a rush basis? If so, how long did it take? I am wanting to travel in October and my application was sent end of March. I thought I had plenty of time as it said processing February 2010 and 153 days. Now it is at 200 days and still processing February 2010! They haven´t processed any new applications since February?Does this mean I could be waiting another 6 months? :o(
