Subject: CBSA - Can I file complaint?!? If so..Should I?!?
Please i need a few advice regarding my experience today at the border... Crossed the Canadian border today after a 5day trip to Vegas with my son, young brother, sister, her husband and nephew. Now I know Vegas is the SinCity.. not exactly a family getaway..but millions takes their kids there, there are still alot of activities.. and its a short 2hr trip. Anyhow, now once we reached the crossing... custom officer asked the typical questions..length, purpose of trip and who came with me...FINE. BUT then proceeded with what i do for a living, why did i take my son to Vegas? Asked if Im single mother(which i am), and if theres court order. My answer was NO, never got around to it due to complicated issues. SO then he started asking... where did i get the money to pay for the trip?? if im receiving child support?? and how can i afford it since im a single mother?? i was very offended by this since he has no idea how much i make.. wrkng FT- banking, and i felt like he judged all the single mothers out there... like we cannot take care of our children, and give them just as much of a good life as a 2 incme household. I felt he went too far with this once.

By all means file a complaint with that Port of Entry Supervisor in writing and the regional director where ever you crossed.

File a complain......switch on the alarm....

That will really help to change your country to make a better liveable place and a more civilzed one.

A public service officer, living on your tax, insults you, I read a lot in this forum and in other places about the notorious and uncivilized manner of these people. I don´t know what the hell the "boss" of these mannerless people do? Do they enjoy it?

Grow up, you are not in middle east. You are in a "G8" (?) country.

I imagine his questions had far more to do with whether you has permission from the boys father to take the kids across the border.

Kidnapping and custody issues across international borders is HUGE.

as a well paid woman, I can appreciate your indignation. Would sure be nice (DOC???) what they were trying to find out.

I completely understand as far as the custody, kidnapping issues... BUT im heading back to the country SO obvilously that question is irrelevant... he basically degraded me not knowing my background..if i had a degree or not. I felt very disrespected and insulted.. Myself dealing with clients everyday... i know how to get my job done right and be professional at the same time. Seems like these ppl feel they can speak to you anyway they want.. always on a power trip

THANX for ur input Sharon

"I completely understand as far as the custody, kidnapping issues"

It has to do with that.

Did that happen in Edmonton by any chance?
Fill a complain to the supervisor at the POE.

Nobody in AB with CBSA would behave like that Docd would they?

The issue has to be right to enter and all this other stuff since the kids identity documents were presented is a mute issue. COMPLAIN!

Not even going to answer that.

"The issue has to be right to enter and all this other stuff since the kids identity documents were presented is a mute issue. COMPLAIN!"

She has the right to complain if she feels that what the officer did is unethical.

But for your information Roy having the IDs of the minors may prove that she is the mother though does not prove that she has full custody of the kids.

Lady,

Feel free to file a complain it is in your right to do so. If don´t mind sharing with us in which Port of Entry you had these issues, I will give you the contact information of the supervisor of that particular POE.

Both parents have to sign to get a Canadian minor their passport.

The issue is that she feels this particular (and not all) CBSA Officer tone and questions went too far. We were not there!

It is a he said she said issue with no corroboration and probably will not go anywhere unless that particular officer has received other complaints.

Consider your tired with a couple of kids and stressed at that and then you get asked questions which may be out of line. R U over reacting if not Complain but do not expect much results.

Now... just to avoid any confusion.. I´m RETURNING BACK to Canada. So the possible "kidnapping" issue is out of the question. I expected to be given the hard time heading out of the country, going into US... but it was the opposite. The officer didnt seem too concern about me taking my son without court order papers but more or so (in these exact words)..."Whats the reason you took your son to Vegas? and "Where did u get the money to take your son on this trip?.. Im just curious since you´re a single mother" WTF?? kind of question is that? i crossed from the ALDERGROVE, BC border...the trip was very cheap. Anyone who flys from Washington to Vegas knows it doesnt cost much at all. But regardless I felt that that was a very inappropriate question. for him to assume i cannot afford to take a trip with my son is very ignorant.. doesnt know my position with the bank or if i have a rich family. IGNORANT!!

This officer was so caught up asking these questions.. he forgot the typical.. am I bringing in tobacco, alcohol, or how much i spent, bringing back into the country.

"Both parents have to sign to get a Canadian minor their passport"

No Roy, they do not. If only mom signs the passport that is valid.
