Subject: English proficiency for Permanent Residency
I am trying to apply for Permanent Residency in Canada in skilled worker category. When I looked at Schedule 3 it is saying to provide a proof of english proficiency or provide a english test result. I have been in US 7 years. Do I need to still take English test to provide proof?

English proficiency... (in reply to: English proficiency for Permanent Residency)
Hi,

Under the new rules, every principal applicant has to show the language proficiency. If you feel like you have sufficient competency of the language then you have to prove it. Otherwise, all your problems will be solved if you take IELTS.

Yes, this process is mendatory.

Please be advised that living in the USA, attending an English post-secondary institution, or any other related experience, will not be sufficient evidence of language proficiency. So, please do not expect CIC to "automatically" grant you the maximum points under Language just because you have lived in the USA, UK, Australia, etc, unless English is your native language.

Furthermore, in light of the number of grammatical errors in your posting, I would suggest that your ability to write English is less than highly proficient - perhaps moderate. Note: I have mentioned this only to illustrate the aforementioned point; not to be hurtful.
