Sharon and others,
Sharon I read someplace you mention doing scouting for your spouse who is MS in Computer Sc.
What skill sets do you see in demand for new vacancies? And ideally what payscale is offered to someone with same skill-set and say 2 years of work experience? I believe you are on the west coast so lets say in the same area.
Also does it come as an advantage if you did your MS from the US?

I am still struggling with it all. I am a techno-tart so I am finding it really hard to know the strengths of R´s resume. To add to our confusion, his expertise is in french and I cannot speak french to save my life. (have not idea how I graduated from highschool with 3 years of french.) To be honest, what I think will happen is that he will arrive and we will start getting in touch with people who can help him with his resume and who understand his training. I also will try and get him in for a few information meetings with human resources departments of some of our larger tech companies where I think he has a skills match. (he designs software for airports etc). We have also spent a lot of time talking about alternate careers- just in case.
He is lucky and he knows it. He will have the luxury of having a place to live the day he arrives. In my mind earning a living is not his first priorty. He will spend his first few months getting his english to a professional level so it does not hinder his job prospects. That is priority one. This will also give him some time to check out the tech market and see where he might fit and to tailor his resume to the Canadian employer.
I know I did not really answer you... but I have found the exercise of trying to shop his skills very difficult to the point where I have suggested we will deal with it once he gets here.

Hi Sharon, I´m trying to determine what my chances are in the job market and it sounds like you could help, I have a 3 year HD and about 11 years experience ranging from Technical presales to Design and Integration, My specialities lie in the Avaya space and a bit of Cisco on the side... Please let me know what your thoughts are for the Ontario market.
