Subject: Give me some suggesstions
  Hello,
I am full time MS student in Universiyt of Ottawa. Landed this May. has study permit upoto 2012. But i didn´t started my study bcz no courses were offered and if i register i will have to pay the money for nothing. So, started to work as Research Assistant in a lab. Now, I am starting my study from September. My wife also applied for student VISA with our 1 year boy. She is also a full time MS student. They are already facing their medical and hopefully they will get VISA.

But the problem is, if we both become full time student, we will not be able to take care of our baby as well as we can not bear baby care expenses. So, i was searching in CIC and find that as i am full time student hence my spouse will be given open work permit. But, i am sure that this is applicable when she is not a full time student.

Hence, is it possible that my wife come with student visa. Later, she change her status to part time student and apply for work permit (What will be the processin time?). So that she can take less number of courses and we can take care of our baby. Or, she will become part time student now and place an application to canadian high commision of our country to give her work permit?
We are also planning to apply for immigration. As, the rules are changed so we plan to move to quebec (gatinue/hull). I have some certificates in French language, so we made this plan. I want to make sure that when we apply for immigration all of our status are legal. What is your suggesstions?

I am a little confused.

Why is your wife applying to come as a full time student when she has absolutely no intention of being a full time student?

do you expect CIC to give both of you a full time student visa? Where is the income coming from? Right - there isn´t any.

I don´t know of any Canadian couple that can afford to do what you are suggesting so what makes you think CIC is going to give your wife a visa?

You seem to have a lot of plans....

Dear Sharon,
Every plan is inter connected. I get salary as Research Assistant. My wife also has grant as research assistant. We also are eligible for some teaching assistantship. With all these we can manage Fall/Winter international tution fee + tight accomodation + tight food etc. But, not daycare fees. She+our son has filed their VISA application and first phase is already passed and they are asked for medical means they will get VISA hopefully. If you need more information let me know.

Dear Sharon,
To add more, my wife has admission as full time student and research grant as full time student. But, i checked that one can be part time student if he/she has work permit. But, research grant as part time student fully depends on the professor who is providing it. Anyway if she can get work permit then we at least can manage some expenses, baby care and later she will start her study. But, for now she has actually applied as full time student bcz that is authentic. So, is it possible that she can convert her study permit to open work permit as i am her spouse and a full time student and also has a baby?

does CIC know that your wife has a child and is coming to Canada to join her husband who is already a full time student?

why did she not come as part of your original application? I think those are the situations when she would be eligible for a permit.

Something is not right here that you are changing the terms of the visa after you are approved and have arrived.

CIC knows about the child and he is also accepted for medical examination and his medical is also submitted. It is assumed that after considering all the situations CIC approves for medical examination.

When i came here, my grant was not sufficient for supporting my families as visitor. So, she applied for admission and a professor agreed to give her grant. But, during this time, more expenses are added to uni. i.e. i had to pay for mandatory expenses which were optional(dental, eye insurance, bus pass), new tax 13% every where expenses increased. Previously we were happy that they are getting VISA. But, when we analyze everything we find that full time study pressure is high, need to work as RA, need to work for TA and may be off campus. Then, baby care is fully ignored. We can plan for time management. Such as we can take different day, time courses but some times it changes after registration. So, we can not make sure there will no time conflict. As we are from tropical region we are fully ignored about winter cold situation.

I am afraid that if i apply for immigration their visitor VISA will not be accepted. Thats why we prefered them to come as student. In the mean time immigration policy is changed and it gets difficult for me to apply so i planned to move to quebec. I am MS student and has potential for PhD. So hope to stay here for 6 years. Thats why i want to apply for immigration bcz internationl student costs are very high.

the truth is, she has no intention of being a full time student, therefore, CIC should have opportunity to reconsider whether she qualifies for a visa or not.

the last thing you want is to get dinged with misrepresentation at this stage and lose your future plans for immigration.
