This Immigration forum Canada City is not perfect, no Immigration forum is perfect.

A few years back I saw a new posting pop up by anonymous asking if anyone knew of a good Immigration Lawyer or Consultant in the GTA. For a micro second I thought I could reply to that and then my ethical upbringing would not allow me to do that. I looked at another message and then came back to the main page and to my shock I saw someone had recommended a company in Mississauga.

I googled the company, viewed their web site and saw that the representative recommended had a graduation certificate from a Toronto community college issued only three months previously.

That the second listing on google about this company said “Help us sue ______ Immigration". What amazed me was I had never heard of this person and could not understand why someone would recommend that individual.

Absolutely no details of the original posters concerns were listed. Nothing whether or not it was regarding a Spousal, Appeal, Refugee Issue, FSW, etc. I replied stating the lack of experience of this company recommended.

I recommended to only retain someone who has experience in your personal area of concern, someone who can show you proof that they have been successful with similar cases, someone who will let you speak to former clients regarding how their situation was similar to yours and how their case was handled. I told them it was real simple get references and that not all authorized representatives have experience in all areas of Immigration.

I was verbally attacked by persons defending the recommended company. Several people started answering postings giving bad advice and signing my name just (Roy) as I used to. I never used to sign my name with my web site address until others started pretending to be me.

Others posters who had never previously posted took to defending this brand new Immigration Firm and I could not understand where they came from so quickly. How this brand new firm of three months had such a great reputation.

At that time I had no idea what an IP address was. The person looking for a quality representative used the same computer of the person recommending the quality representative. SURPRISE, SURPRISE!

On another Immigration Forum called Yorkbbs there was a person who posts answers to postings. When one of my clients responded to his postings she was swamped with relax Leo helped me, Leo is great, Leo will get you landed etc.

She started paying and paying and paying and then they set her up to be arrested. She gave these Trolls EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Read the story here. http://www.torontosun.com/news/torontoandgta/2010/08/21/15098346.html

Now THIS FORUM “CANADA CITY” has always had several long time advice givers that make sure this type of fraud does not happen on Canada City. That advice given can be supported by actual sections of the Act, the Immigration Regulations and details of how and what the Officers must consider as per the various Immigration Manuals plus exactly where one can find everything themselves.

For the long time posters who give freely of their time and answer questions honestly (THANK YOU).

For those that want the quality people who give quality advice to disappear so you can lie, cheat and defraud the unsuspecting, GIVE UP!

Roy it is a sad story to read. The temptation of easy money is probably going to keep these kind of scam artists thrive! I pity that woman who lost all her savings. I hope she will find something worthwhile to do in China.

Sad story indeed. Too bad she didn´t start her process with a professional consultant right off the bat, such as Roy. Part of the problem is that people are guilible and often lack common sense. Maybe easy for me to say in not being in such a desperate situation, but after a few thousand $ spent with no end in sight and no results, one has to question what´s going.

what could those people do with that kind of money in their own country?

I am reading how this group of Tamil refugees paid $40-50,000 each to get a chance at living in Canada. Most of them do not have education or language skills. What sort of life are they buying themselves? What would $50,000 have done for them in their home country? Start a business... get an education... build a family home...

Life isn´t easy here. 80% of families require 2 incomes from decent paying jobs to survive. I really don´t get what people think they are buying.

Sharon the issue is the idiot that convinced an eighteen year old student to make a refugee claim six months after arriving here.

Then whom do you hire becomes an issue with people with poor English skills.

Than you wait for ever for your hearing in which the IRB member asks all the questions first. Counsel must prepare the client far in advance and hope they remember the focus of their claim.

2003 untiol she contacted these fraudsters in 2007 and when some one offers a money back guarantee she should of known better.

No real representative can guarantee anything.

That´s sad.

people don´t come here thinking they are going to have a wonderful life they just wanna get the hell out of their country they don´t want to be killed or persecuted I don´t think anyone can relate to immigrants and what they go through, not being one themselves,I´ve worked in countries where people are so desperate to get out that they end up commiting suicide. People have to be in the other one shoes to feel what its like.

Mia, there are 2 kinds of immigrants - those who are anxious for a better life for themselves and their kids and are prepared to work hard and sacrifice to have it... and to those people I say welcome because I know they will succeed. And then there are people who are unhappy with a very satisfactory life in their home country but think they want more. More often than not, they had status back home and expect the same royal treatment in this country. The latter often come here and realize they actually had it pretty good back home and blame Canada for their unhappiness.

Contentment is no things and money, it is a state of mind that money or lifestyle cannot buy.
