Subject: passport request by New Delhi (spouse category)
  Hi all,

I had posted earlier too about a letter comming and saying that they received my application. THe same letter went on to say that as a next step send you passport. The answers I got from people was that the processing was done.
Here is my question? The online inquiry says that they started processing on the 12th of Jan and the letter was posted by the Canadian high commission on the 15th!! can things be done in 3 days?
NOTE: I had sent my mediacals before I applied (Nov) and I am applying under spouse category

thanks & regards
R

Why dontcha send the passport and let them put the visa in there? You seem to be anal about their fast processing!!! Which sounds weird.

Hi,

I highly doubt that they finished processing your application in three days.According to the CIC website, the average processing time for spousal applications processed by the New Delhi visa office is roughly 2-4 months. If they had finished processing it, they would have mentioned that fact in the letter that you received.

I think that the reason that they asked for you to send them your passport in your Acknowledgement of Receipt letter is because how quickly the New Delhi visa office processes spousal sponsorship PR application. By requesting it up front, it saves you and them time. For example, this is how the Buffalo visa office handles requesting passports: once they finish processing the PR application they send out a passport request letter (generally takes 1-2 weeks to get this letter in the mail depending on the time of year and how far from Buffalo the applicant is), once the applicant receives the passport request letter they then have to send your passport within 30 days of when the letter was sent (depending on how it is mailed and the time of year, it can take roughly a week or so for them to receive the passport via the mail), once they received your passport they would then stamp it with the visa and send it back to you (it takes about 2 weeks for them to stamp it and roughly a week for the applicant to get it back once they mail out the stamped passport). The whole thing can take a month or more. By requesting it up front they take away all those additional steps/correspondences...therefore eliminating the additional time.

So, even though you probably have a bit of time left until your application is finished processing...just send in your passport now and rest assured that you will probably get your passport back (and stamped with your permanent residence visa) sometime between March/April and May.
