Subject: Applying for government help
My father immigrated to Canada with me back in 2006. I was 17 then, now I´m 21. He has threatened to send me back to my country recently; and I already know he has no rights to do that. You see the thing is, my father never paid a cent for my education/shelter/basic needs etc. I live on my own and even though I used to work from time to time, I´m currently unemployed-has been since January. I´m also a full-time student and desperately in need of financial help. My mother was helping me out since I landed here, but we are both struggling to make the ends meet each month, and I´m wondering what kind of government help I can get. Grants and etc. or Government Housing options. I know that once I file for financial assistance my father will be in default, but I simply have no choice as he is refusing to help me out. Could you guys give me some advice on how to file for financial assistance- not loans/ but grants as I have no means to pay back to the government anytime soon. One more question. Will it be my father or me who´ll be required to pay up this amount in order to be able to sponsor someone again. Thanks guys.

when you came to Canada, were you sponsored or did you come with your father as part of a skilled worker application.

If it is the latter, there is no default issues. If it is the former, the person that sponsored you is the one that would get asked to repay any government assistance.

And you are not the only one who struggle these days in this country.

you would need to apply as a skilled worker through the regular channels and satisfy all requirements - including medical and financial.
