Subject: Buffalo backlog!
  Hi everyone,

a few topics below somebody mentioned that the backlog in Buffalo is about 52 weeks, and no one answered my question whether that timeline concerns only the skilled category class, or the family (spouse) class as well since they are the priority. I received a letter that a file has been created for me, awaiting assesment (family class, Jan. 24), and today I checked the e-client, and it says that the application assessment has begun on the same day-Jan. 24. Should I still expect a 52-week backlog??

Thanks

Spousal Applications are pushed through much quicker then Skilled Worker and Business Class applications.

From what I´ve heard, the average processing time for spousal applications in Buffalo is usually around 9 months. However, sometimes applications are processed quicker then the stated processing times. For example - I applied as a Family Class (spousal sponsorship) through Buffalo, here is my entire immigration timeline:

July 6, 2004: Completed applications (i.e - my husband´s sponsorship application and my permanent residence application) received by the Mississauga Case Processing Centre.

August 6, 2004: My husband was approved as my sponsor, Mississauga forwarded my permanent residence application to Buffalo for processing.

October 6, 2004: Buffalo sent out my Acknowledgement of Receipt, they began processing my application on October 5.

Decemeber 20, 2004: Buffalo finished processing my application and sent out passport request letter.

I sent my passport to Buffalo on January 11th, it was received on January 18th. In the passport request letter they said it takes about 2 weeks for them to send passports back, so I´m just waiting to get it back so I can land.

If you´re interested, I recommend taking a look at this mailing list - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canadian_immigration/

It focuses on Spousal Applicants who are immigrating to Canada. The people on the list are extremely supportive of each other and try to help each other as much as possible with any questions people may have.

Hope this helps.
