66 Point + 10 Yrs in the US rejected

Subject: 66 Point + 10 Yrs in the US rejected
I received a letter that my application was rejected due to insufficient points, I scored 66 pints as follow:

10 Pints Age
25 Education
10 Language
21 Experience
0 Arranged employment
0 Ad ability

My IELTS score was 7 in Speaking, and 6 in listening, writing, reading.

I have a master degree in IT from a US College, I studied English for Two years in a US college, I have more than 5 years of USA work Expeiance, I lived in the US for almost 10 Years but application was rejected

I thought the immigration officer will consider my application and help me on the language side due to the long time I studied , worked and lived in an English spoken language but I received a letter dated Sept 7 with the rejection

I am writing this , so every body should be careful about submitting the required documents because I read before in this site, that if your education was in English and you lived and worked in an English spoken country that should help you when assessing your language ability , but that´s not true, they only looked at my IELTS score regardless of your real English ability , so everybody should take caution because getting a high score in IELTS need long time practice regardless of your real English proficiency Skills!

Oh boy... looks like it is getting tougher to get through this immigration process by now. Are you sure your IT training has nothing to do with less attractive application? I am presuming that the IT skills are no longer in such great demand these days. Sorry to hear about this case. I hope you find a positive resolution to your aspirations. Good luck.

(in reply to: 66 Point + 10 Yrs in the US rejected)
We always say here, if you want and need specific marks for language - prove it. The only way to prove it is taking IELTS. Now Mr. Sarhan, IT skills have been removed from the skills list and your opportunity to try again is pointless.

I am sorry this has been such a painful lesson. Others would do well to take your advice.

I have written many research papers and read lots of journal while studying for my master degree in the US, my coursework was evaluated by American Professors! (Phds)

My lawyer did not notify me that I will have to take the IELTS Test, I guess he expected that there would not be a need to take it based on my Education and work skills in the US

When I got the notice from Buffalo that I have to take the test there was not enough time to practice, so I did not get the required score!, Many people know that having a good level of English language does not guarantee you a top score in the IELTS examination.

The Canadian Immigration , currently requesting that Applicants must include the results of his/her official language proficiency test, when I applied back in January 2009, this was not the case, otherwise, I would practice and get very high score.

I am just sharing this information with people applying now ,so they don´t Fall into the same experience, it is my believe when you help other God will help you elsewhere

and we appreciate your desire to warn others. You are not the first to assume their language skills were sufficient for full marks and be surprised otherwise. With all respect Mr. Sarhan, your written english is not worthy of full IELTS marks regardless of how many research papers you have written.

For those of you under the old rules - DO NOT COUNT ON 16 POINTS for language unless IELTS verifies.

@Mr Sarhan:
sue your lawyer. everyone with a basic understanding of the CIC application procedures would have recommended to take the IELTS to make sure to get enough points as only native speakers would get full points without language test. in your case it was quite obvious as you were relying on these points to reach 67 pts.

Mr/ Ms Anonymous

I don´t need the full points (16) to reach (67) pts.
I only need 11 points and I got 10, My IELTS result was only slightly less than the requirement, only one point short in Language , I thought my experience and education should help as I read somewhere on the net that some people scored 66, but their applications were not rejected because of their Education and Experience in English.

There is no more time to ask for a re-mark for the writing & Speaking Module, it would take 8 - 10 weeks.

My Lawyer asked me to write a letter explaining that my scores did not accurately reflect my English language abilities, I did submit a handwritten letter, I am confidence that my score does not reflect my English ability, in face I am working in a University where I am in direct contact with the linguistics department, Many professors at the linguistics department have assessed my English and were confidant that I should score 8.0 or more.

I took the IELTS twice :

In the first Test,I got 5.5 in Reading, 6.0 in Wiring, Speaking, Listening ( I was supposed to complete a Test Day Complaint Form, because there was an unnecessary interruption during some sections due to power outages, I did not fill out the form , because I did not know that there were some options that candidates can take to retest

In the following month , I took the test again , I scored
5.5 in Reading and writing, 6.0 in Listening and 7.0 in Speaking, ( I am positive that my Speaking, and Writing was not marked accurately)(Human mistake)( Unfortunately, the British council, does not provide the test candidates with good IELTS Test Notes, that should help to file a complaint when needed.

I am not complaining against my lawyer, it has been a pleasure to work with him , but I am mad because I feel that I am being treated differently when dealing with Canadian embassies "I hope I am wrong", For example, in 2008 I applied to get a business visa at the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C, I was supposed to go for a business meeting, my client was the government of Alberta in Calgary, the meeting arranged by my American company and Tulsa International, the embassy did not get me the visa as they did with my colleague at work, in fact they requested that I should apply for work permit 1st.( Why they did not ask my friend to apply for work permit too?)

My American company was not happy, because they did not request all these documents from my colleague, and they did not ask him to apply for work permit "this make my
picture bad at my company!, or give indirect bad idea about me or my nation", My company sent a letter explaining that I am not going to work, it just a business meeting, they accepted the letter but unfortunately I waisted many days on the process, I was also asked to wait 10 days to get the decision, I missed the business meeting and lost around $1200 as non- refundable ticket cost

I am not complaining against any rule, in fact I highly respect any Immigration rules and I also respect people of any nations, but I hope that rules applied equally to everyone.

you thought wrong. The only internet website that counts is cic.gc.ca. When there are far more applications than Canada needs, they must be strict with the rules. 67 points is the minimum.

Mr. Sarhan, consider yourself lucky. You´ll be jobless in Canada, or taking minimum wage crappy jobs. US is far better for job opportunities, even when in crisis. I wish I could give you my PR card.

Thank you sir for your generosity, I wish if I can invite you to work in my country, but unfortunately "the financial crisis" now are every where, America is a beautiful country, and the people are very friendly, if you get a chance to go their, don´t miss it!!!

I will visit any western countries again in the future, but it will be for higher education, as I appreciate the quality of education that exist in western countries.

I hope the situation will get better soon, I experienced the minimum wage situation in the US, and hope things get better soon at your sit.
Thanks all for all your comments, it has been a pleasure to
learn from your thoughts
