If you have SUPPLEMENTAL insurance, you don´t pay for glasses (once in two years; typically you get two pairs of glasses). For medication, you don´t pay anything unless you need a whole lot of drugs every month. If you work at big corps or govt agencies, you get relatively cheap supplemental insurance. If you do not have any supplemental insurance, you will have to pay for prescription from your pocket (it could be expensive... even if cheaper compared to US).

Be aware that the Universal Health Care in Canada does not cover dental, vision, prescription, travel insurance or hospital cash. You will need to get those coverage yourself through private insurance policies. If you work in a big company, you can get a cheaper coverage deducted automatically from your monthly check to cover. Make sure you do your research before moving back to Canada from Scotland. To find out what a typical health and dental insurance can cost you in a month, assuming your employer does not provide one.....
