Subject: Eligibility for filing PR extension |

Hi All,
Background:
I am a landed immigrant. I landed in Canada in May 2008 and went back to my country. I came back in July 2010. I worked in Canada earlier, om work permit, from July 2005 till Oct 2007. I applied for my PR in Nov 2006.
Question:
I heard that half of the time(days) spent (in 2 yrs) before landing can be considered in calculating the 730 days which i have to spend to be eligible to file a PR extension. Can you please confirm if this is correct. If so, can you please provide me a link to the reference of this rule.
Thanks for your time and help.
Phani

(in reply to: Eligibility for filing PR extension) The "half of time" rule refers to when you apply for citizenship as adult.

Good luck!

in reply to: Eligibility for filing PR extension (in reply to: Eligibility for filing PR extension) Hi,
Thanks for the information. But that calculation is useful when applying for citizenship. I wish to know if there is some calculation rule for calculating eligibility for filing the PR extension also.
thanks for your time.
regards

(in reply to: Eligibility for filing PR extension) you are missing a few things up here.
Citizenship is not Permanent residency. There are different qualifications. To retain your PR status, you must reside in Canada 730 day in the last 5 years.
You apply for a new PR card every 5 years and your ability to do so will depend on the 730 days of residency. There is no such thing as an extension. You either qualify or you don´t.

Eligibility for filing PR extension posting (in reply to: Eligibility for filing PR extension) Hi Sharon,
Thanks for your time and answer..I understand that both are different. I would take some time of yours to explain my situation. I told that i landed in 2008 may and went back to my country. I came back only in July 2010. Since i have only less than 3 years left, i would want to make sure i will be able to file for a new PR. If i didnot go back this situation would not have arisen, but, i just want to doubly make sure that i am eligible to file for new PR. Hence the question.
thanks
Phani

(in reply to: Eligibility for filing PR extension) 730 days from May 2008 to April 2013. Make sure you can prove you have intentions for Canada to be your home.
