Thanks for the input newcomer. I know some people are not happy when others succeed. Rent in Metrotown - Burnaby area is only about $800-$850 for 1 bedroom and it´s decent enough for a start. Move further east, you´ll get $650-$750 in Surrey, although it´s not a nice place to raise children.
Secondly, a family who earns $29k a year obviously won´t pay 15% taxes. It´ll be a lot less, calculating the benefits that can be received.
Thirdly, bus passes can be used for tax reduction purpose. Maybe Canadians don´t know that?

So can anyone please give an opinion, is it difficult to get a $10-$14/hour job in Greater Vancouver area nowadays? Thank you.

Are you asking us... or are you telling us. I live in Metro Vancouver. This has nothing to do with wanting or not wanting you to succeed. You asked a question and I am trying my best to answer you.

1) EVERYONE pays taxes. yes, bus passes can be deducted. That is why I am estimating you at a 15% tax rate instead of 25% You are going to pay CPP and EI regardless of how low the wages are. You are going to have lots of subsidies but it will not bring you anywhere near zero and those federal and provincial subsidies will not kick in until after you file your first income tax return.

2) Burnaby rent at $8-850... basement of someone´s house perhaps. Surrey, $650 again, basement of someones house and 3 miles to a bus stop.

You have said absolutely nothing about your skills that would earn you $10-14 an hour. Yes, those wages require skills.

I am telling you because you didn´t answer what I asked, you´re telling exaggerated facts perhaps thinking that I didn´t know anything about Vancouver area. There´s no point really why are you replying my posts but all you did just talking about income not enough etc.

Your point no 2 shows that you don´t know Vancouver yet. Please Sharon, I appreciate your posts, but if you don´t know about something, please do not try to answer because you will lead mislead people.

ALL I ASKED is can anyone please give an opinion, is it difficult to get a $10-$14/hour job in Greater Vancouver area nowadays, no matter what are my skills? Truly such wage range doesn´t really require extraordinary skills, does it?
If you find it so hard to answer, then please do not waste the 7 messages left in this topics. Thank you.

exaggerated facts??? I live 10 minutes from Surrey, 30 minutes from Burnaby and 20 minutes from Vancouver. I work with 450 business people that ALL have employees. I have employees myself - but what the f&/* do I know.

You do not live here but you seem to think YOU can tell me the facts?

$10 an hour require few skills but english but the competition is stiff because there are a thousand immigrants that think they can arrive with lousy english and still get a job. $14 an hour means you have to use your brains. I posted an administrative assistant job 6 months ago and had 350 applications. It was paying $15.

Stop asking if you don´t want the truth. Find out for yourself.

geesh.

not answering the questions? really! And who told you Surrey was not a nice place to raise children? It´s the fastest growing school district in the country. Do you have a possible problem with the colour of your neighbours?

I only get insulting when people ask questions and then argue with the answers.

don´t bother asking if you don´t want an answer.

Sharon do not waste your time on this individual .. she does not want answers, she simply wants to argue, Remember the adage about wrestling with a pig ...you will only get dirty, and after a while the pig begins to enjoys it.
