Subject: questions about latest IMM5257E form - TRV
  Hello all,
I am currently working in Canada on a post-grad work permit. Now, i need to travel back, so I need a TRV as it is expired. So, as I am filling the new form IMM5257E (its new, as they say fill it online, then before printing, the pdf will generate a code and then print).

question 7 - should the answer be canada or since i m citizen of india, so my current country of residence is India.
actually canada is not even an option in the drop down menu of this question !!!

question 8 - I have lived and living in canada for past 5 years ... so i guess my answer should be canada.. but strangely Canada not an option in the drop down menu!!! if i fill yes, i cannot leave the country column blank as pdf says incomplete file. so wht to do???

question 9- country where applying means since i will send it to seattle so, it should be US. or should i say canada (again canada is not in option..grrr)

plz help!!!

My English is getting better.

Canada should apply to all the questions if I were to apply a new TRV.

Question 7 - my current country of residence means where I am living right now here in Canada for the last 5 years.

Question 8 - all other countries including Canada

Question 9 - I am applying in Canada

Does your post-grad work permit say that it "confers temporary resident status" on it?

thts where the problem is (in reply to: questions about latest IMM5257E form - TRV)
thx for prompt reply.. you are right.. but the problem actually is that the drop down menu does not have an option for canada. now CIC wants to first fill the form electronically, then validate it, after validation it will generate 4th page with a bar code, then print and sign the form.

In fact i called CIC and they were puzzeled.. and gave a stupid answer that call the office whereever i m applying (in my case LA) and tell them would they accept handwritten form because of such and such problem.

soo.. frustrating!!

Then it clearly states that you have to apply from within Canada. i.e. you are trying to fill out the wrong forms. The form IMM 5257 is for the people who are applying from outside of Canada (i.e. currently out side of Canada)

As you said you are in Canada. You should be clicking on Inside Canada on the below mentioned link. and I guess you can start from there.

Best luck,
Nisha

I am already in Canada but want to apply for a new Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to allow me to return to Canada after a trip abroad. How is my case different?

Note: The new application form, available through the sites below, does not currently include Canada in the list of countries of residence. If there are any questions where the correct answer is not available from the online drop-down options, you must print and then hand-write the answer. This means you will not be able to "validate" the application but that should not be a major problem in the short term.

your post makes no sense. are you a permanent resident? citizen or visitor. If you are a visitor, you must apply for your TRV from your home country if your current visa is not a multi entry. If you are a permanent resident, you do not require any sort of visa to return to Canada.

which is it?

why did it not make any sense? because you did not say you were in Canada on a work permit. We cannot read your mind.
