I have been serving in Africa for 13 years as a missionary, returning home periodically for 1-2 months every 2-3 years. Eight years ago I married a fellow missionary from Ethiopia. We have been serving together in Tanzania for the past 7 years. Whenever we go home to visit the family in Canada there is always the long protracted affair of a visa application and approval for her. So far it has been rather ok as we have been able to go home twice. However I wonder is there some provision that this can be circumvented since we have been married for 8 years now. I am not in a position to sponsor her to be a PR or citizen as we have no intent to settle back into Canada. Rather we want to continue our missionary service in Africa. However it would be nice if somehow she could get some legal status with the Government of Canada. Any ideas?? Thanks md

No free lunch here, she has to still apply for a visitor´s visa.
There are only three classifications to enter Canada.
1-Temporary Residents
A)Visitors
B)Workers
2-Permanent Resident AKA Landed Immigrants
3- Canadian citizens
That´s it, nothing in between 1 and 2.

Doc did not address your major problem.
unless you are intending to reside in Canada, gaining official status for your wife is not possible. 1) you as the Canadian have to show full intent that you will be taking up permanent residence in Canada should you sponsor your wife
2) She would be required to fulfill her residency requirements of 2 years out of 5 to retain her status.
Given you intentions to remain on the mission field, I suspect your only option is to continue the painful practice of securing a visitor visa for every visit.
