Subject: Q for Sharon or anyone who can help me please
ok so I have all the papers ready to sponsor my spouse under family class: medical record taken today, police certificates ready, hopefully everything is ok. My Q is...and this is something I can´t find on the site (I am probably not looking at the right place) but I remember a PR card expires on the date the medical records do (which is one year from the day they are taken) or on the date the passport expires whichever comes first. Am I correct? and if so, what happens if he only gets approved for PR after 6, 8, 10 months or more from applying? Does the PR expire in the next 6, 4 or 2 months because the medical records are only valid for 1 year? or does he have to get examined again? I am confused. Thank you for clarifying this for me.

yup, you are little bit mixed up.

your medicals are good for 1 year. IF for some reason it takes longer than 1 year to process a spousal application, CIC can ask for the medicals to be done again. The window from the time of approval to the time where you must land in Canada is also tied to the life left on the medical exam but I have not heard of anyone being given an unreasonable length of time to get themselves to Canada. Roy can correct me but I have also never heard of anyone given less than 90-120 days to land.

more important, check your application to make sure it is complete, that you have made your case for sponsorship etc. Forget about the medicals. They will take care of themselves.

thank you for your answer. So If it takes longer to process or let´s say 8-10 months there must be a way to repeat your medicals so that you don´t get a reply saying ok you have to be in canada in the nest 2 or 3 months. The reason I am worried is because I want enough time to look for jobs ahead of time for myself as well because even thou I am canadian I work and live in the states under TN viza. thank you

no, they give you a time limit to land and there is no extension mechanism. If you want additional time to look for a job, you will need to formally land, get your documents sorted out and then return to the US. After that, all you would need to concern yourself with is residency requirements to retain your status.
