Subject: travel to Cuba with expired PR
I want to take my mom to Cuba. But her PR card has expired 2 weeks ago. I have just found it. She has been waiting for citizenship for 18 month. NO luck. They said they are "verifying"
DI anyone had experience in getting return permit in Habana for a permanent resident with expired Pr card?
how long did it take?
how many times have you to go to the embassy?
was it $50 CAD?
were there issues at entering Canada?
Thank you.

If your mother is from a visa requiring country then the AIRLINE (not CBSA) will not allow her on the flight without either a valid PR casrd or a valid visa.

If your mother has met her residency requirements, 730 days out of 5 years, then CBSA will allow her back into Canada as she has a right to enter.

The issue lies with the airline.

However you must expect that your mother is going to be questioned at the airport upon her return trip as an expired PR card will be a huge red flag.

To ensure your trip goes as smoothly as you want you should bring along documentary evidence that your mother is in fact a resident of Canada.
Or you could hold off on your trip until she recieves citizenship.

thank you. she is 85, and they say citizenship may be in 6 months, if not than in 12 months. She has been waiting for citizenship for 2 years. no luck. "verifying" - that´s what they said.
airline may not allow her to exit Canada?
anyone knows, if is it difficult to obtain return permit in Cuban consulate in Varadero?
