Subject: Re-entry with work holiday visa
I am in victoria at the moment and planning to go back to the US for 3 weeks this tuesday. I have applied for a work holiday visa but have only a work permit in my passport and a stamp. I have read that re-entry with a work holiday visa is possible but am not sure that the stamp gives me that priveledge. On the work permit it says this document does not authorize re-entry. So i´m confused. And do not know if i need to apply for a tourist visa or who to contact to obtain this information. Please help

Travel and Residency Documents
As a general rule, Dutch citizens do not need tourist visa, although your international passport´s validity date has to exceed by at least one day the projected date of departure from Canada. With a valid passport, Dutch citizens may remain in Canada as a tourist for a maximum of six months.

The Canadian Embassy in the Netherlands has no responsibility for travel or residency documents. It does not have a Visa Office. It does not provide information about travel and residency information.

For further information about travel documents, visit the web site of the Canadian Embassy in Germany.

Always prepare everything well in advance. Allow for the fact that there will be a waiting period while your application is being processed. Issuing documents also takes a certain amount of time.

"Does not authorize re-entry" means that is at the discretion of the CBSA officer at the port of entry to allow your entry into Canada.

So it is a 50/50. You can go to the US but make sure when you return to Canada that you have a copy of your return ticket from Canada to your home country and a letter from your employer stating that you are still employed until.....

CBSA officer´s concern is going to be that you ARE going to leave Canada at the end of your visit and that you are actually working and also that your employer is fully aware that you are here on temporary basis.

Of course keep your work permit in your passport.
