your call for an ease of residency rules and support for those trying to find employment would be valid if people were being forced to come here against their will - but they are not. They come to Canada because they think it might be easier, or better or a combination of the 2.

If you don´t want to take the risk - don´t come in the first place. If you can´t make it - by all means, go home. But, don´t try and play both sides of the fence at the same time.

I am not interested in paying your medical bills, educate your kids or looking after your mother unless you are prepared to live here, work here, contribute to our society and pay taxes here.

Canadians that are born here have the same challenges without any special consideration. There is a reason for that - it is called reality.

TO KIM LEE (in reply to: to Kim Lee)
Sharon,
I was clear, help them and relax conditions under certain terms. I said we need the money to help our society, and I of course am not ready to just help others instantly for free. No one is ready to carry others for free, but we need to change to cop up with the changes all over the world. Let them pay tax, but let them work anywhere. Let them maintain their jobs back home, but let them contribute, and they should, to our and their Canada. Do not just force them to find somebody to play ticks to maintain their PR status. Do not let them just wait to obtain Citizenship profile and then fly outside the coun try the next day!!. What is the problem Sharon if immigrants are relaxed in terms of those 2 conditions (the 730 days for PR and 1095 for Citizenship) but at the same time they continue to timely pay tax? What if they are allowed to keep their permanent jobs at anywhere in the world subject to they pay tax on time. There are different ways we can help new immigrants and ease their life, nevertheless we as well maintain the interests of our Canada.
...
I am already a Citizen since long, but I know that there are thousands who share my idea about the need to change our law and regulation, not only for the sake of the new comers to our country but most importantly to also secure the best interests of our country but with an open minded approach.
I also understand reality, and it is simple... you understand the actual problems immigrants dace, and you then look equally for the interests of both parties, you will gain much... and possibly much more.
K.L.

Just a review of the 730 and 1095 requirements. Why not 100 and 500 days instead! subject to paying tax on time, and fulfilling aany other terms and keeping credit safety, security and healthy records. I just do not see a valid reason as not to review the current terms in light of the tough conditions the new comers normally face in relation to financial stand, suitable and permanent jobs. WE NEED NOTR TO MAKE IT TOUGHER FOR THEM.

730 days in 5 years? That is nothing more than a vacation. We need workers not tourists.

I find it amazing that you think rules should be relaxed for the immigrants.

No one said to come here. No one begged for them to come.

They need to suck it up and work hard at ADAPTING to their new country.

I did.
I struggled for years.

I did not whine
I did not go on assistance
I did not think that Canada must change for me...

I knew I must change for Canada.

ANY person who wants to whine after coming here should just leave. It is a privilege not a right to immigrate to Canada.

I am so tired of the ones who come and whine that this should change and that should change.
They should change this rule for my kids
They should change this rule so my parents can come and be a
drain on a system they never contributed to.
They should change my residency requirements so I can run back to my country and use Canada as a retirement or medical haven while not contributing anything.

The Government is starting to smarten up and while they are
making some missteps I predict that it is about to become
much harder for the immigrants who want to play games with the system.

"We need workers not tourists"... fine. Then let us find them permanent and suitable jobs that fit for their records of expereince and capabilities, and let us find them a suitable house yet affordable to the income they will make in their new Country. Let us as well afford them job satisfaction and job security. They need a new home and they must work hard to support their new Canada... fine, WE NEED THEM TOO... and we can not make it without them... listen carefully WE CAN NOT MAKE IT WITHOUT THEM... THEY ARE THE FUTURE AND THEY ARE CANDIAN IN PROCESS.... LET THEM ENJOY THEIR SHORT LIFE AND LET US ALL PAVE THE ROAD FOR OUR NEW CANADIAN TO LOVE CANADA AND WORK FOR ITS BETS INTRESTS... AGAIN, THE 730 AND THE 1095 DAYS ROLES ARE SILLY AND DO NOT HELP OUR COUNTRY.

This is by far one of the dummest things I ever heard. How can a person get a job satisfaction, a job security and make it in a new country that also includes learning a new language with the expectation that the minimum requirement is 100 in 500 days?

Your expectations and demands are high but the price that you are willing to pay is way too low.... It doesn´t work for me.

If you can´t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

This debate doesn´t make sense! The few Canucks on this board hardly have any political power to change anything, legislation-wise. These arguments should be properly written and sent to immigration minister and press (as opinion columns). If somebody has a good job in their home country why would (s)he need Canadian PR, much less passport? Makes no sense; is it somehow fun to work in your own country, while being a foreigner there? LOL If you choose to move to Canada, just move for real and fight for survival... No Govt can offer jobs to immigrants! They need to fish out the jobs for themselves based on their skills and the availability. OK I am not going to involve discussing this matter any further... Guys have fun!
