Doc, just a clarification. You mentioned to the Filipiono guy that he could theoretically land and then return right after to continue his studies. You mentioned that he needed a travel document. My wife is about to land (I am her sponsor)next month; however, since she is a doctor she needs to go back to her homeland to close out her practice . In other words she will be in Canada for a month after she lands and then will return to her country for two months ..then come back to Canada permanently. You mentioned the Filipino fellow needed a travel document? What is it? And does it apply in my wife´s case? Many thanks

The easiest thing for her would be to stay in Canada for about 6 weeks after landing, that is what normally takes to receive her PR in the mail. Once she receives her PR, she could just come back to Canada, no additional documentation would be needed other than her passport and PR card.

If she goes back to her home country BEFORE she receives her PR card, then she would need to apply for a travel document.

Just a heads up, it could be longer than 6 weeks.
It is the government you are dealing with, and things sometimes take a long time...:)
