Hello,
My question is can a permanent resident status be lost?
I understand that if you commit a serious crime you could loose it.
What happens if I´m a permanent resident and leave Canada for 5-10 years. I´m planing on going to Australia to do a Masters and PHD in a Australian university.
I applied for Canadian Citizenship on October 2008. For some reason my background checks have not cleared. A Immigration Officer told me that CSIS has not given clearance. I have never been convicted of a serious crime or ever been to jail. Does anyone know why it takes CIC so long to decide?

PR status will be lost if you fail to spend 2 out of every 5 rolling years in Canada.
