Subject: Has quota been reached yet?
Hello,
I´m aware of the 20Kcap and 1K per category quota in a year. 2010 is almost over and wondering if it´s still worthwhile sending the application w/ few days left this December? Would January 2011 be a better option?
Anyone, please...
Thank you very much.

It depends on the NOC. Some have hit the cap and others haven´t. See here for a current list: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp

If you are interested in applying for a NOC that has hit its cap, you will have to wait until next summer to submit an application. The year used for these quotas is June to June - not calendar.

The only other tip that comes to mind is the following: You can´t assume that a NOC which is on the list now will be on the list next year. This list is updated by the CIC each year and sometimes new NOCs are added and/or existing NOCs are removed. Good luck.

My suspicion is that the quotas have been fulfilled across the board: Truth is, way too many people clamming to reach these shores these days. However, if you can raise 1.6 million CAN$, you have a great chance of sponsoring yourself into Canada. Good luck.

follow through of quota reached (in reply to: Has quota been reached yet?)
Appreciate.
Persistent as it may sound, the 1122 NOC code which is the Professionals for Management is what we will be applying for and unfortunately, the only one that has reached the total cap of 1000 as of 11/29. Is my understanding correct, only 1000 applications will be handled, denied or approved? The 1001st application CIO will receive will not be entertained anymore? Pls clarify, we still want to submit despite the update I read. Tx

2nd to follow through (in reply to: Has quota been reached yet?)
also, pls enlighten me with this notion. Is there a possibility that if and when the 20,000 total cap or 1K/catergory is not filled-up yet towards June 2011, is there a possibility of transferring the opportunity to occupations w/ high demands (eg. crane contrator is least at the moment, any chance they´ll accept more appl to 1122 code or other in demand jobs?). Much thanks

hard to answer your question as this is the first intake under these new rules.

as for the 1001 application, I suspect there is probably far more that 1000 applications already at CIC. They will look at them by date stamp and once they reach their quota, they will send the rest back. Given the stats are historic and not exact, I would abandon any thought of being app #1001

as for transferring quota - that would be highly counter productive. Those quotas are designed to ensure there is not an over abundance of skilled workers for available jobs. That was the problem with the old system - we were getting far too many IT folks that qualified but there were no jobs for them - hence the limit per NOC code.

Do not expect any sharing of quota between skill sets.

pretty sure, we´re off the quota and would probably take our chance to still submit. 1122 I believed came into picture only this year and who knows what NOC will be posting the next time after this cut-off. It´s hard to accept your time, effort and money are put to waste. If application comes back to us, at least we can say to ourselves, we´ve tried and luck is not (yet) on our side. I think they´ll refund our fees if application wasn´t touch at all, right? Kindly affirm. Thanks

If you submit an application for a NOC that has reached its cap - the application will be returned to you. So there´s really no point. Your only real options are: qualify for a different NOC, wait until next summer and apply (assuming your NOC is still on the list), find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a job and apply for an LMO.

by job offer, I think it´s the same thing in the US-H1 visa which easily gets filled in, may not even take a month to close the cap... at any rate, having to chose another NOC will be the next best option. tx though
