I am a Canadian citizen (born in Canada) who would like to marry my US citizen fiancee and be able to live together and work in the same city in Canada.

The thought of getting married and living apart for a minimum of eleven months is not appealing whatsoever.

If we were to marry in the US then come back to Canada together with her dependant child. Would she be allowed to stay in Canada until we had her permanent resident status obtained or would she need to leave and return before the six months of visitor status ran out?

If she has to leave and return how long does she have to leave for?

No, she is not a seasonal resident. Don´t even consider that.

Sorry, but there is no free lunch here. She may be refused of entry into Canada to begin with, since her intentions are to stay in Canada.

In the scenario that she is allowed in, if she leaves Canada and attemps to re-enter after staying 6 months, it would be a clear indication that she is residing in Canada and NOT visiting Canada as her visitor status states. Which the end result may be "Being refused of entry".

You have basically two options:

1- Get married down in the US, fill an outland application and then your wife can immigrate to Canada as a Permanent Resident once the process is completed. You can stay with her in the US while her application is processed. (You would have to apply for an extention of your B1/B2 status in the US)
Or you can come back to Canada and go down for a visit. She can also come to Canada for a visit while her application is in process.

Option #2:

2- Once you are married and in Canada, you may fill an inland application. Be aware of the implications of filling an inland application though. I would highly recommend you to fill and outland application.

These two are safe options, trying to keep your wife in Canada as a "visitor" when in reality she is (or will be) living here for 6 months and going down and coming back for another 6 months, it´s a really bad idea that eventually is going to bite you in the rear end.
