Subject: Canadian Eligibility
  Hi,

Please could you advise me on the following.

I am a British passport holder who is looking to move to Canada for at least 6 months to work and possibly to enter the states on a working visa. (my understanding of this is that it is easier to do this as a Canadian citizen than a British one.)

My father was born in Canada and holds an expired Canadian passport from 1997. He also has a current British passport which he uses. Am I eligible to gain a Canadian passport and would this be the easiest route into Canada and the US.

I´m not sure if my current status is important but I am 25, working and a recent marketing degree graduate.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me,
Sean

Go to your local consulate, apply for citizen born abroad.
Under NAFTA you are not required to have a visa when applying for your work permit at the USA border (or airport).

However you must still have a job lined up, and all your documentation in order.

If (sounds like you are) you are a Canadian, the next step is to start looking at the USINS website as their rules are complicated.
