Subject: I am a Filipino physician who is contemplatin...
I am a Filipino physician who is contemplating about immigrating to Canada. Before I start processing my papers etc., I would like to get some information with regards to how one becomes qualified to practise in Canada. Also, is there an employment agencies for immigrants with regards to related fields in medicine..for example research for a pharmaceutical firm? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas to All

Hi Juan,

Check the website mcc.ca for detailed information to become a doctor in Canada. In Canada, it is almost next to impossible to practise as a doctor without getting licensed by the medical council, which requires you to go for canadian education.

first step to pass MCCEE exam. THEN tough one is MCCQE1,this one and MCCEE are both computer based exams. Third exam is MCCQE2, which is practical exam and very tough one too. After passing these three exams you have to check with provincial medical college board if they give you license and let you practice in that province or not.

its tough but if you are under 35 years old, have patience, good reading power, can refresh all what you read in college or university and money to pay for these exams fee, then try it.

Vittorio may sound harsh but is damn realistic; that is what happened to a lot of serious surgeons. I know one guy who was a top Ophthalmologist in Colombia but now works as a surgical assistant in Toronto. I asked the guy if his life was threatened in his country but he was all smiles and said no; he enjoys being a nurse here than a top surgeon in his country! Talk about stupidity.

Juan, a suggestion for you, stay where you are now. You are much more needed there. Come to Canada and big chance you´ll be working minimum wage and perhaps end up begging for welfare. Been there, done that, glad I did return to my native country.
