For those who have family and friends who wish to visit Canada just for the holidays do not write an invitation letter as if the Canadian government has to issue your guests a visitor visa.

If your family member or friend has never traveled abroad the chances of them obtaining a Canadian Visitor Visa (CVV) is slim.

If your family member or friend has no real reason to return to their own country the chances of them obtaining a Canadian Visitor Visa (CVV) is slimmer.

If your family member or friend comes from a country torn with strife do not even apply.

When you invite people a logical time frame is two or four weeks and if they get admitted for six months be happy if not you can apply for an extension.

If your single and are inviting a person of the opposite sex do not state they´re coming to get married.

If you just had a baby do not invite a parent so that they can take care of your child because that is defined as work. Especially if it is your second or third child.

When inviting a person consider what your going to show them and the more off the normal tourist attractions trail the better.

If your inviting people from hot areas of the world at this time of year it is always good to take them on a dog sled trip or other truly Canadian adventure away from the CN Tower or Niagara Falls especially when asking for an extended period of time.

Travel Insurance, reason to return, explain previous travel, etc.

Remember if it is common sense to you and three others it will probably be common sense to the Visa Officer.

This also applies during the inspection at the POE, just because a person is holding a visitor´s visa doesn´t mean that they have the right to enter Canada.

A foreing national with a valid visitor´s visa, with a one way ticket only and his/her intentions of visiting are to get married or to "check things out" holding only a couple hundred box, probably is not going to make it too far.

if the person travelling does not have a lot of cash, be clear that they are coming as your guest and all they need is a little spending money.

all suggestions above are good ones.

we have applied to have a visit visa for my mother in law from india as we are expecting our first child..

They got a phone call from the embassy asking them to confirm some information - but we did apply and state in the letter that we were looking for her to help us..

what do you think the chances are of her getting approved?
