Errors/omissions in Sponsorhip/Immigration forms

Subject: Errors/omissions in Sponsorhip/Immigration forms
I went over some confusing items with an agent yesterday on the phone and they agreed with me.

Here is another one that just jumped out at me:

Part 2 The Immigrant´s Guide
Appendix C (Meds form)
1. Person to be examined
----
----
----
Relationship to *sponsor*
Spouse Conjugal partner
Common-law *Dependent child*

What they really mean is Relationship to Sponsor OR Principal applicant. The dependent child is usually a dependent of the
Principal applicant and not the sponsor.

I am mentioning this because it is somewhat confusing and also incorrect.

I am not sure, but you may be looking at the sponsorship forms for Commonlaw spouse and dependent children.

So it make sense they are asking what is the relation with the sponsor.

Hope this helps.

I am looking at Appendix C, the standard form taken to your meds appointment.

It is for:
-Spouse
-Common-law partner
-Conjugal partner
-Dependent child

The problem is for the dependent child.
They see "Relationship to *sponsor".

The dependent child is a dependent of the applicant, not the sponsor.

A spouse filling out the form, has no problem or confusion.
They are the ´spouse´ of the sponsor. Straight forward and clear cut.

you are missing the question.

an applicant must also have all their dependents physically examined - whether they are immigrating at this time or not. Then they ask relationship to sponsor - perhaps that child is being adopted by sponsor or is the biological parent.

Yes, they are the dependent of the applicant - maybe... what happens if they are in the custody of a divorced spouse.

The question is correct - you just need to widen your scope of how the question is asked.

Sharon I hear where you are coming from.
I don´t think the question is correct as worded.

It does not take into account ALL situations, particularly a most COMMON one.
Put yourself in the position of a dependent child; that is, your mother is applying as the applicant.
Now it´s your turn (the dependent child) to fill out the form.

You arrive at this statement:
"Relationship to sponsor"

and now you must choose between:

-Spouse
-Common-law partner
-Conjugal partner
-Dependent child

You are NOT the spouse of the sponsor.
You are NOT the common-law partner of the sponsor.
You are NOT the conjugal partner of the sponsor.
You are NOT the dependent child of the sponsor.

What do you do, lie?

I´m sorry, none of the four choices fit.

the dependent child does not fill out the form. The applicant does - in every instance.

>the dependent child does not fill out the form. The applicant does - in every instance. <

It´s funny how two intelligent people can read a simple form and come up with such divergent interpretations of it.

I am a Canadian citizen, born and raised in Canada and speak English fluently.

I have three university degrees: B.Sc., B.Mus., B.Ed. and was a teacher for 22 years in Ontario.

The opening line of Appendix C states very clearly:

"You and all your family members who are not already Canadian citizens or permanent residents must fill out Appendix C and undergo and pass a medical examination, whether they will be joining you in Canada or not."

Sharon, it DOES NOT STATE, "You must fill out for yourself and all your family members..."

It states you AND all your family members...MUST FILL OUT Appendix C...

If you still have problems with the instructions, suggest to CIC a better way to explain things. I personally, don´t find the instructions confusing.

>a 3 year old is going to fill out the form?<

No, in our case a 21 year old dependent is going to fill out the form.

A three year old probably can´t read and thus would likely not be confused by the wording.

Sharon, first of all you directed me to a page for an inland application

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5289E15.asp

We will be making an outland application (different instructions).

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999E4.asp

The above page sheds no further light on the Appendix C form and so yes, I do still have problems with the instructions.

I will be talking to CIC again and suggesting an alternate wording for the document.
