Subject: Made a mistake what to do now
  Hello
I know all who read this may be very mad about the poor choices I have made.

My wife was a failed refugee/humanitarian compassion claimant and was asked to leave Canada. At the time we were planning to get married so we did 2 weeks before she left. I stayed in Canada for 10 months trying to sort out selling my house and looking for a lawyer. I was advised to move with her to her country of Argentina, and file from there.

I did. I am on a tourist visa here now. The bad news however is that I applied for unemployment and filed it for 5 times since being out of the country. I know that it was wrong. I just thought that while I waited for the money from my home sale I could collect it and pay it back. I just missed my wife. We were together for the last 8 years. I had no money and I just wanted to be here with my wife. I know that is no excuse but I felt all alone with nowhere to turn.

My question is I know that I can not apply for her to come back, because of what I did. I am sure the Government would never allow it...but what do I do now, should I write to them telling what I did? I plan to return to Canada and work for 4 months then move back here on a PR card to be with my wife. I am scared. I know this was a mistake and its people like me who ruin it for everyone. feel free to be honest, nothing you can say could make it worse.

Did you apply for Employment Insurance (EI) while outside Canada?

Yes - that´s what he did.

Derral - What do you mean by "move back here on a PR card to be with my wife". Are you a PR or a Canadian citizen?

I applied for EI before leaving canada. Then filled it and recieved payments 5 times since I have been gone.

By move back here..I mean to South Americia to be with my wife. Since I will not be apvoved after what I have done.l I am having so much guilt and I just want to know what the next step would be to make things right.

Thank you for your help

I am a Canadian citizen. I was meaning to get a PR card to work and live here with my wife in Arg. So we will not have to be apart again. was just wondering what to do next, will I be allowed to leave Canada again? Will my passport be taking away?

Derral,

This is a fruit salad. Try again to explain the circumstances.

Your status, wife status, place of residence, etc.

I apologize for being confusing. I am just freaking out here. I am so upset with myself over everything I feel sick.

I am a Canadian citizen. My wife is a failed refugee/humanitarian compassion claimant. She returned back to her country of Argentina. We were apart for 10 months.
I filed for EI while in Canada - then after I was approved, flew here, to Argentina to be with my wife. I filed 5 reports online since I have been here and received 5 payments from EI. (while here) I received about 4 payments prior to leaving Canada. I am on a tourist visa in Argentina right now and can not work. I am just wondering how to go about starting to right this wrong I have done.

Start by making things right. Call Service Canada and tell them you lied. They will ask you to pay back the money you took and perhaps fine you a little. After that you will be able to sponsor your wife!

It´s not like you killed anyone man, you just screwed up!

I was under the impression that it was a Federal Offence. Thank you so much. I have been sick to my stomach for weeks over this. I will write to them right now. Thank you.

Read this. It gives you an idea of the penalties that may be applied and also provide information on who to contact to report your actions. They are clearly more lenient if you report it yourself. So I´d do it as soon as possible.
