Shron and others,

I see a lot of new immigrants disappointed. It may be a good idea if some of you can devote some time to help us while we wait to get access to local online newspaper links which we can get idea for job prospects and maybe begin some sort of academic training in those fields. Or some advise on specific jobs in specific geographic areas.

Tks!!

The basic problem is that most local newspapers are not going to carry vacancy announcements for trained experts! These will go to the approrpiate technical journals or online resources. If you take a local newspaper in Anytown, USA, you are also likely to see ads for lap dancers, waiters, lumberjacks, trash collectors. These are generic jobs and are best advertised in the local press. WHo will advertise a Carada Research Chair Tier I or II jobs in these media! These days, IT skills are becoming more and more like secretarial skills so these folks might find things in the local media.... but if you are a highly specialized IT nerd, you better look for professional journals or famed people or companies in that field and directly contact them! One the otherhand, if you are trucker or lumberjack or worse a weed-peddler, you certainly don´t go to the Canadian Journal of Technology to look for available positions. By the way if there is someone here who has VERY REFINED BENCH CHEMISTRY SKILLS IN ORGANOMETALLIC CHEMISTRY, contact me... I can show you a couple of nice jobs that fetch over 50 grand.

there are some good websites that are industry specific such as canadaIT.com or bctechnology.com. Vancouver Sun newspaper publishes a very extensive want ads (career and general) on Wednesdays and Saturdays that can be accessed online. They are not just waitress jobs. try to find associations for your area of skill - they will often show job postings.
